Yeah. The diodes in this circuit can honestly be replaced with anything and would be hard to notice in a mix. The diodes in the originals aren't magic

Interesting, if not for anything more than the electronics lesson

I took the magic diodes out of my KTR and replaced 'em with some cheapies from Mouser and it sounds the same.

That guy recorded an hour long lesson because of a diode, it shows how obsessive guitar players are

I found some NOS diodes. Sylvania ECG109 / 1N34A. I heard a big difference when I put them into my Ceriatone Klon clone. I measured everything so that the were matched, etc. The sound had less mid range bump and just sounded better. ?. Don’t be mad because I have discerning ears. ?

a lot of people don't realize the diodes don't even come into play when your running it at one of the most commonly used settings ..
Volume to taste ( Usually close to Unity Gain )
Treble to taste
Gain all the way down
Very cool breakdown of the pedal .... great vid .....

This. Klon overdrive sucks.

 I like the overdrive on Klones. To me it works as a boost or an OD into a clean amp. Unlike the tubescreamer where I only really like it as a boost with once again the drive low, level above unity and tone to taste.

Then, how come real Klons do what they do? Something is going on in that circuit that other pedals can’t match. I would never consider spending the kind of coin they go for, even before Covid.
So if it’s not the Germanium diodes then there’s some other secret in the circuit.
Because after finally hearing a real one, nope the clones just don’t do what a real one can.

It really depends on a lot of factors but the way I run clean Fenders nor the way I run cranked Marshalls work with a distorted/gritty Klon overdrive. And not real ones but several clones which aren't exactly the same I get that but just don't want to hear it. They're not that much better that it would change my mind. The recent Bukovac Hearing Test video just confirmed how I've felt about TS and Klons for a long time. Just not for me. I do have a VFE Merman that I like but because of the extra knobs and I use it for color...not OD.

Don’t you know, they’re overrated just like the Rev C & D Recto’s & Dumbles. Just ask all the geniuses that’ll say in a mix who will tell the differences or watch the brilliant videos by guys like fluff showing them. Who cares what our own ears tell us when AB’ing these things in person. As long as they seem the same on paper it must be true
