Greetings :)

I picked up a Mesa Dual Rec Roadster recently and want to use it in place of my rack rig for certain gigs. It sounds good, but I feel like it needs a little delay to give it some sauce. What reasonably-priced pedal would you recommend? I'm looking for something I can put in the loop, set on top of the amp and leave on all night. Something that would sound good whether I was using the clean channel or one of the gain channels.

If you can throw some recommended settings for the suggested pedal my way, that would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

Carbon copy as well! Great pedal in the loop or in the front!

TC flashback

I got greedy and picked up a used flashback x 4 but in all honesty, I set most of the presets I made close to one another so regardless of using ping pong or 2290 delay, I still set them similarly. I could easily choose one of my 3 presets and leave it on for a full show or practice because i am a fan of the slight slap back/light echo alla demartini in the back ground. Suitable for rythm, bigger cleans, or spacey leads. The advantage of the flashback is all the diff modes of delay you can try. The analog and tape were my least favourites. I like some robustness to my repeats.. like a fine wine with some punch. So with the CC, you'd better like analog delay or else you are hooped.

For super cheap, axle grease delay by visual sound.

As for toneprints, not sure how some of the pros play with those settings...

Another vote for Carbon Copy -- compact, easy to dial in, modulation if you want it, and transparent.

Can you beleive a guy i work with went out and bought a DD-3 new for 149$ canadian??? What a tool... more people should be tone snobs like us and spend more time on this forum than playing guitar! That said, i see flashbacks go used for 90-100$ all the time too.

CC for analog, Boss DD for digital. Both are common and go for cheap used. Flashbacks are great and can be cheap too. I use a DD-6 in my small gab and go rig as a set-and-forget delay. 800ms setting, time: 380ms give or take, feedback: 10 o'clock, level 11-12 o'clock.

I found the Carbon Copy to be a little too limited for what I wanted, it sounds great for what it does though. If you aren't looking to get into weird ambient Dr Who territory then the CC is fine.

The TC stuff is solid too, and the toneprint feature seems pretty cool.

Thanks for the recommendations - much appreciated. Now I have to dig in and try a few of them ;)

I just checked this thread because I hadn't gotten any emails and was curious why no one had responded. Plenty of responses, but no email from Rig-Talk even though I clicked the "Notify When a Reply Is Posted" box. Odd...

Hardwire DL-8. Great versatile unit with many delay types and not too terribly expensive.
Read here that friedman and Mark Day really like it so tried it and loved it. Best one ive tried yet. Tape setting is just awesome. Second choice would be the flashback.

I haven't got to try it yet but the new Vox delaylab is getting some good reviews too.

Hardwire DL-8. Best Delay pedal i have ever tried!

Been hearing a lot of good things about this one. Reasonable price too. With that said, can't go wrong with the flashaback either.

If you like ambient delay tones for clean work as well as subtle delays for high gain stuff, the Strymon Timeline is the best. Overkill just for subtle delays though.

You know what, any cheapo delay will prob do the trick if it is in the loop. Hell, even the digitech digidelay. That thing is solid and i see it go for 50$ used all over the place because it says digitech and looks out dated. Some chorus and "set it and forget it" delay in the loop and you are done.

I REALLY like the Malekko 616 delay. I use that thing on almost all the time. I've got a Flashback which is really cool too, but I just liked the Malekko a little bit better.
