My band is switching to in ear monitors this year. We're going the Behringer route for the mixers and whatnot. I'm going to put the whole thing together with breakout panels and snakes. I'm hoping to make setup and teardown quick and easy.

My guitarist is looking at the Behringer Ultra-G DI between his Triple Rec and Mesa cab. He doesn't want to hassle with the mic, mic splitters, or FOH through stuff. He wants to DI to our ears and let FOH do the cab. He's also on a budget because he just blew his wad on wireless in ears and personal mixers. Anyone use the Behringer DI, or recommend another DI with a cab sim on the cheap?

I haven't used the Behringer Ultra DI, but on paper it should definitely do what you want.

We switched to in ears a couple years ago and picked up an X Air18 and were very pleased. Biggest issue we had was many of the club systems around here didn't have enough sends.

Oh, and if you haven't considered it already, get an external router.

Used that DI years ago - like 17 years ago - when I first started gigging as a kid. It was horrendous.

Something like a Red Box or the Blug BluBox would be a better option, with something like a Two Notes Torpedo or UA Ox even better.

Ultra G is a newer version. It looks way better than the original ultra, and made for guitar.

That being said, the Red Box is probably the best sounding DI for IEMs that I've ever heard. But it's $40 (Ultra G) vs $120 (red box). Easy decision on a tight budget.

We're running our ears first. I'm only using the outputs for the throughs to FOH. We're still working out some of the kinks, but I'll have a breakout panel for FOH so they can just plug and play. The guitarist is unsure how we're going to do guitars. I'm all for micing it and using an output on the mixer to FOH. He might get a DI to our ears, and let FOH mic the cab, saving us an output for something else.

I told him about the Red Box DI and we'll see what he says.

AMT Pangea. Life changer for direct guitar for around 200 bucks.
