I'm shopping around for a cab. I've got an open back oversized 212 i like (G1265's), but i'm wondering if i'm missing out on a rear loaded 4x12r? I play 50's-modern rock, funk ,blues, pop, 80's rock, not much metal ---I prefet strats so in the past the open cab styles have suited me well, but some of the clips i've head the diezel 4x12 and herbert sounds great! What are your suggestions? do i need the 4x12 or 2x12 +/-...
thank you guys!

Bass is better typically with a closed back design, just my humble opinion. The Herb's got a lot of power on tap, so pending if you plan on cranking it, you'll need drivers that can support the power. I'm of the mindset that no matter what, if it's full room sound you want? Then go for a 4x12. If it's studio and jam and session work, a 2x12 with the right mics (for studio recording) is just dandy. I've had some beautiful and well built 2x12's in my room, and they sounded great, but nothing ever comes close to a 4x12 in the higher registries.

Just my 2 cents. Judging from what you're talking about style wise, I'd almost be more into an Einy, but the Herb's a terrificly versatile amp nevertheless. If you've got your mind made up on a Herb, then go full bore and get a 4x12.

Peace,
V.

Get a 4X12 (if your playing with a drummer) Rear loaded cab for what youre playing.
ANY one of the Diezel Rear loadeds are great for this. You can always change speakers but i think the rear loaded closed back design is the way to go for all the styles youre playing. I have both the old and the new and honestly they are both great cabs. Ive also owed a zillion others and these are my fave's

I've been blending a 2X12 FL G-Flex with EV-12L's and either a rear loaded Mesa with Vintage 30's or a 1987 Marshall
Jubilee Straight with G1275's. For 80's stuff the RL Mesa or Marshall are great. For more aggressive tones a mix with the FL
2X12 is superb. Combining does at time cause phase issues, but some are pleasant. I can say the Herbert is very responsive to
different cab's, but in my opinion it does not like small RL slant cab's. I'm sticking with all straight's.

2x12 Custom Audi Electronic cabinet is fronloaded and compact size. not so big like new Diezel 2x12 cabs. I have one and I think, the sound is very close to the soud of Diezel 4*12 frontloaded I had before.

I'm using a Diezel 2x12 FL with G12K-100s with my Einstein before I sold it. It's a fabulous combination and works greAt. Now with Herbie coming in the next week...I can't wait to hear it!

I've been inquiring about cab/speaker combinations for my Einstein 100 in another thread. The G12K100s certainly have my interest!

Do you have the newer FL cab - the ones which are supposedly the same (over)size as the RL ones? I'm currently running my amp through an Orange PPC 212 and I'm not happy with this combination for various reasons. I've been wondering whether Diezel RL or FL, V30 or G12K100 (or a mix) would be good for me.

How does the Einstein sound with the K100s (esp. compared to V30s) and how does the 2x12 FL compare to 4x12 cabs in projection and 3D-ness? Would you say that the Einstein works very well with the FL construction (as compared to RL) or is it really just a matter of taste? Thanks!

NO. I have one of the US built 2x12FL cabs. Bogner actually has their new 2x12FL horizontal cab built the same way (same factory) and it sounds great as well.

Now....with the mixing speakers end of things.....I am not a fan of V30s but I have heard in combination with the K100s it is supposed to sound great. I'm not above trying it myself but, I think that the K100 may perhaps dominate the V30 too much when the amp is louder, no? That was one of my concerns. But....seeing as it is parallel wired in there (from what I can tell?) perhaps I may be wrong on this?

Either way, I get plenty of bottom, clarity and focus with this cab! I'm also running those WEber beam blockers which work great!
:)
