Peter,
What are your thoughts in having two G12K-100's in the 2x12 cab vs. the V30's? Or for that matter, have you ever placed a G12K-100 and V30 in the same cabinet. I love the low end in all my amps, but sometimes get that upper midrange “honk” or nasal frequency that is present in the V30.

Hi Docster,

what´s about to mix the two speakers ?

I have tried 2xG12K's and also 1xV30 + 1xG12k. 2xG12K - no way, it has no mids and no personality. Mixed, could work, but I ended up back to the 2xV30. For what I play the scooped sound of the G12K, with pronounced bass and highs, adds nothing desireable to the tone.
I can see some people preffering the sound of the G12K, mainly if you play very heavy and downtuned. V30's tend to loose definition when you go lower than C on your guitar.

I have never tried K100s but what you described was also how I understood Peter when I asked him about using K100s instead of V30s in the cab for my Herbert. With the Einstein and VH4 the K100s might be an option though. I went with all V30s for the Herb and no regrets here.

I've actually done this with my 2x12 Diezel front load cab. I'm currently running 1 V30 and 1 G12-K100 in mine and it sounds fabulous at all volume levels. The different sounds from both speakers really balances out the frequencies. You get the low end from the G12K and the mids from the V30.

It's a great setup!

xmartx - I run my Diezel Herbert, Mesa Roadster, or Orange Tiny Terror into either a Mills Mach 212 or Orange P212.

I had the chance to A/B Diezel 2x12 G12K-100 and 2x12 V30, both front loaded. I ended up with V30's. The high frequencies are more pronounced. There is a big difference at clean settings. At high gain this could be a little bit too mush but Ι did choose V30's without a second though.
Now if you want to take your chance and do the mix... :salute:

PS: Einstein head here.

What speakers do you have in your other cabs? If at least one of them is already V30 loaded and you know you're looking for something different you might as well go the K100 way. There are plenty of people including Andy Wood who are happilly using K100s with their Herbert and you can even try running the Herbert through one V30 and one K100 cab to find out if you like the sound of the mixed speakers. In case you don't like them you shouldn't have a hard time selling or trading them for sth different.

FWIW the best cab i have ever used with my VH4 is a Splawn 4x12 with the Small Block 65's and Big Block "Heritage" in X-Pattern. It works so well it brings a tear to my eye everytime i strum a chord!

I have used Orange 4x12's with V30's, Mesa 4x12's with V30's, Marshall 4x12 with GT75's and a Marshall HW with "Heritage Greenbacks" (which was also nice but not as nice to my ears as the Splawn)

I know you are looking for a 2x12 so id really reccomend a Splawn with a SB/BB config.
