Hi there, i have an Einstein on order and was wondering if the following is possible....

i have a gigrig midi8 pedal/midi switcher and wondered if i got the midi channel mods done which tubelit offer would i be able to control everything from the midi8 or would i need any other devices? this is my ideal set up. i currently have it set up to changes patches on my eventide pedals via midi so was hoping it would be the same principle?

thanks in advance, Tommy.

Your Midi-Switcher has to handle 4 switches. You have to tell Bernhard, that you want to switch via Midi. Usually you get from him a custom pedalboard without any midi option. I'm using the K-switch from PayneLabs. Works fine.

is it different in priciple to how i set it up to change the patches on my eventide where you set certain midi signals to go to a certain patch... if that makes sense?
i assumed that each channel on the amp would have a value assigned to it with the midi mod and i would just have to set the corresponding value on my midi8 to be able to channel change?

can you explain how the k-switch works please?

thank you.

if i got it right the gigrig has no relays built in. with the einstein mod you need a device that gets midi-patch-changes and switches each of the integrated 4 relays as programmed. these relays are then connected to the einstein jacks and switch channels.

what you lack is then a midi-switching device like nobel ms4 or similar

it would work like that: all connected you would choose a midi preset on your gigrig that calls up a patch on the eventide as well as on the midi-switcher. you then program into the midi-switcher which channel of the einstein you want to play. you store it to the switcher. everytime you recall this preset, the switcher will switch the programmed channel on the einstein.

ah great that makes sense i think. with that method i could just use the standard channel mod i assume.

so that the actual channel changing on the amp is not midi, but the gigrig would change midi patches to the device you mention and that would send the signal to the correct channel on the amp via normal cables and id not need to get the midi mod done on the amp, just the normal jack socket? or have i got that wrong an would still need the tubelit midi mod?

i don't know about a "midi-mod" on the einstein. as far as i know tubelit offers a mod+pedal that uses a midi-cable/jack but is a normal switching thing.

i did the following:
- UNOFFICIAL channel1-mode-mod by myself (viewtopic.php?f=14&t=24857&hilit=unofficial)
- bought nobels ms4 (used)
- made y-cables (2ts to 1trs)x2
- hooked eyerything up
- use now a midi-device (nova system) to change presets on ms4, that changes the channels on the einstein
(BE SURE TO HAVE SET THE FRONT SWITCH ON THE EINSTEIN TO CH1 MODE2 TO PROHIBIT BAD SHORTS)

in either case you need a module that transfers software-midi-programm-changes to hardware-relay-switching (in vh4/herbert intern module, no such in einstein. i use the nobles ms4, chris the payne labs k-switch). don't know if tubelit offers that though.

your doing what i want to do so thats great!

ive found the nobels ms4 an looks ideal. can you advise what sort of cost they are as cant find a price on line?

regards

i take it the lead from the stereo jack is the one that needs splitting to go into seperate channels on the Nobels MS4? that way you would have 2 cables running to the standard channel jack and master volume jack on the amp, then the stereo cable running to the modded jack on the amp, so would use all 4 slots on the MS4 to go to 3 jacks on the amp.... hope ive got it right? (sorry im new to all this as only used single channel clean amps previously!)

regards

i used 4 mono to the two stereo jacks on einstein
- channel plus master
- new mod jack

The K-Switch is a 4 x Looper with 4 Switches.
You can switch the channels, the modes and the 2.nd master vol. as you like, incl. the fx in the loop. Just with your midi floorboard.
It works perfect. I have an 19" FX in the insert and two stomp boxes in front of the amp. Everything is possible with the K-Switch and: it's cheap :-)
Check out the manual:

looks like it it'll do the job nicely. i was also wondering how i could switch on my effects in the effects loop from the midi8 and switch on my exotic bb in front of the amp from the midi8 and the k-switch looks to be the answer! happy days! :) many thanks

Hey...looks like you fixed my problems, too!

But where to buy?

P.s. My Einstein´s Ch1 is footswitchable via stereo FS! No Tubelit-Mode, sorry...only put three cables from the Switch of the front (inside, of course) to the back. Now I´m not longer able to use two 8 Ohm Cabs, because I needed the place for the switchplug...
