Hey Guys-

I just picked up an Einstein 100 watt head. I play in a cover band and would like to be able to use all modes on ch 1 as well as the lead channel given that they all sound AWESOME!! I bought the head intending to have the mod done to enable footswitchable modes on Ch 1. But, now I'm wondering if this is the best alternative given the volume issues.

I was curious how everyone is using their Einstein "live" to take full advantage of the amps tones/capabilities. I've read about the midi mod and the regular mod. I must admit, I have no experience with midi, so I don't fully understand operating the amp with a midi switcher. How does this get around the volume issue? Of course, there's always the volume knob. But then you're limited to one mode.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I used to work around it with the two master volumes. Today I'd probably get a switcher to do the job with one tap, to avoid step dancing.

Thanks guys! I'm in the US. So shipping to Europre is impractical for me. I do have a pretty skilled amp tech who ought to be able to perform the mod.

I have done the mod and there is a guy on ebay (Switch Doctor) who I helped design a footswitch for this specific purpose. Search amps and diezel and it will come up. What is cool about the way we did it is that when you select crunch (or Mega I think is the diezel name) it overrides the clean texas setting to always go to Mega and while in mega you can preselect clean or texas to go back to when deactivating the mega mode. If you do a normal set of switches, the amp will only go into mega when the clean texas switch is in texas, so you'd have to hit two switches to go from mega to clean. He will give you instructions on how to do the mod too. I have to footswitch, it works great. Aagin, I helped design it and we worked out the kinks to get it to perform for live use. Let me know if you have any questions. The mod to amp consists of 3 wires and a stereo feamale jack, very easy. Good luck

Ohh yeah, the switch is $139.00 not $300+ like the other one posted here. Good luck.

Thanks Bob! I did see the switch on ebay and I did exchange emails with him. You're the first one I've heard from that actually uses the switch

No problem. Maybe I'm a little biased because I helped design it but I knew what I needed to do and Dave & I work went back and forth and then he sent me prototype and we tweaked it from there and sent it back and forth until we had it right. The main thing I wanted it to do was to be able to go directly to mega (chnl one, mode 3) directly back to clean or texas with one stomp of one switch. Let us know what you decide to do.

Wow! Kind of cool that someone who worked on it is on the board here! I ordered mine last week. I had to ship it to a friends place in the U.S. and he's sending it to me. Can't wait to try it out. I already have the mod done on mine for a while but pairing it up with this footswitch will be great!

My question is, I find Channel 2 sounds better when the Channel one is left in clean position. Can that still happen with this switch? It's more of a channel bleeding issue if anything.....not a big deal. Looking at how things are laid out, I'm pretty sure it can.

Great work and thank you!

Here is what I do and it works pretty well in live situations:

I had the mod done for mode-switching in channel 1.

I have a very small rack with a Rocktron Replifex or a G-Major, which I use to switch the modes in channel 1.

Then I have the Vermona Loop-Switcher. This device I use to switch channels and Master 1 and 2. (the Vermona has also 4 loops, which I use to switch the Replifex, a Delay pedal, a Reverb Pedal and an Graphic EQ - all in the Rack).

On my pedalboard there is a Rcktron Midi Mate. Now I can have all patches I like by stepping on one button to another, eg. from Channel 1 mode 2 with a little reverb to channel 1 mode 3 and master 2 with delay, and then to channel two with chorus (with channel 1 mode 1) and then to channel 2 with master 2 (with channel one on mode 2) withe reverb and delay and so on.

All variations are possible, programmed to one patch and pressing one midi button.

That works great at gigging.

Yes you can with the switch doctor footswitch go to channel two and also be in any of the 3 modes on channel one. For soloing I like to added pregain of mega (mode 3 channel one) but it does compress more so for heavy chunky rythym you can be in any of the 3 modes including clean. What's cool is you will always know what mode in channel one you are in regardless of using channel two. And you can go from channel two or mode 3 (mega) channel one with either texas or clean preslected. Hope this helps.

I just use my Einstein as is from the company. Some people prefer the mod, which is a good one, while others don't feel the need for it as much.
After you get used to the amp, you will know whether you desire the mod or not.
