Hey guys!

I was all set to get an Egnater MOD 50 when i heard clips of the Einstein and heard about the fotswitch mod - then my jaw hit the floor.

If I had a way to switch between Channel 1 Mode 1 and Mode 3 and then to Channel 2, this could be incredible! Diezel should build a specific floorboard for more versatility.

However, do you have to sequence through the modes or can you go back and forth between mode 1 and mode 3? Also, doesn't channel one share one gain knob? If so, this makes the mod kind of worthless for me since I like less gain on my clean than I would want on mode 3.

How does the amp sound at lower volumes? Lots of manufacturers are making amps which have half power or low power switches like Egnater and the new VHT Sig:x.
Maybe this amp just works well at low volumes as well.

Thanks!

I too have an Einstein that I love, but I am selling it to get the more flexible VH4. I was going to get the mode mod that you were talking about, but decided against it. I figured I'd come up against limitations with the mod as well-switching between cahnnel one modes will still require adjustments to the gain and volume, as a switch between clean and either of the dirty modes will result in uneven volume at some point. Might as well walk over to the amp and flip the mode switch and do the adjustments then. Peter has said many times (to me and my suggestion of the same mod) that the Einstein was made to be a nice 2 channel amp, and that is what it is.

Wanna buy one? :)

So how do you get nice clean, rhythm and lead????????

I would think, like many amps with modes, the volume would be fairly consistent between modes on the same channel. If not, the footswitch mod would not make sense.

Not having had it done, but peaking with Uwe at Salwander, and corresponding with Peter, it sounds as if it won't work as you expect.

As far as dialing in a nice sound, you figure out which mode you want on channel one, get it sounding good to your ears, dial in the volume to match what you are doing with channel 2, and there you go. Use the volume on your guitar to compensate mid-song if you have a problem. I have found that switching between modes during a song results in differing volume levels from clean to Texas to mega crunch, which is why I don't think the footswitch mod makes sense for me, and this is why I am considering another Diezel, most likely a VH4.

Maybe someone who has the mod will be able to comment on their experience with it, and maybe Peter can tell you a bit more why this shouldn't work. It was only designed to be a 2 channel amp, not a 4 channel.

That's too bad-I'd get the Einstein and learn to work with it. Good luck.

Well, after listening to clips I kind of lean toward having the variety with the Egnater plus I just can't find this type of versatility in any other tube head....except maybe the Bogner XTC or Mesa Boogie Road King.

No problem. I did the mod myself. Now I have 4 switches.

1. Switches between Mode 1 and 2 OR Mode 1 and 3 depending on 2.
2. Switches between Mode 2 or 3 on the second setting of switch 1.
3. Switches between channel 1 and 2
4. Switches Master 1 and 2

So basically, if I set switch 1 on Mode 3, then I can toggle between Mode 1 (clean) and 3 (rhythm) with switch 2 and between channel 1 and 2 (lead) with switch 3 and have another switchable master volume.

It rocks!!

Thanks for the info! Any problems with balancing volume?

If my Egnater does not worl out....I'll be looking at the Einstein or a Mesa Road King. I like the variety with the MOD 50 and the RK as well.

What tubes are in the Einstein??? EL34s?

One concern I had was clean. I like having GREAT clean like a Rivera or H&K clean channel.
