Hi all,

In need of advice here:

I am thinking of changing the pickups on two of my guitars.
As I have recently acquired a new Hagen and I am now focusing my efforts in changing the pickups I have on my Caparison Horus and Mayones Setius 7.

For the mayones I am thinking for either an Aftermath (bridge) and a Coldsweat (neck) or a Set of Black Hawks.

For the Caparison I am leaning towards a Nailbomb and either a sinner or a trilogy suite for the neck.

I mainly play modern progressive metal / metalcore / death metal . Heavy detuned guitars. I am after versatility. Heavy riffs with petrucci/govan/-esque lead and clean sound.

Can anyone who has a Diezel and uses bareknucle pus recommend what are the best options? I know it's best to try but it's kinda impossible to try all these pus on my guitar and then send them back to BKP. :)
It's a bit of a gambling situation but I am willing to take the risk for a better tone.

Gaparison Horus spec (copied from retailer's website):
•A very popular Caparison model, with high class features and an outstanding price-quality relation. The Horus is unique in its unusual combination of small body shape, 24.75" (628 mm) scale, and 27 frets. Moreover, it was designed to use the downtunings. To achieve the distinctive richness of tone, especially in the mid-low range, the choice of walnut as the body material proved the best.
•Finish: Yellow Sand, with gold hardware.
•Body: Mahogany.
•Neck: Hard maple, oiled. Bolt-on neck construction - this enables a fast, precise attack response, while retaining a full, "fat" tone.
•Scale: 24.75" - like Gibson Les Paul, SG, Explorer etc., i.e. a 2 cm shorter scale than for instance a Stratocaster, resulting in better playability even with thicker string gauges.
•Fretboard: Rosewood, with "Clock" inlays - a very noble looking instrument!
•Frets: 27, jumbo.
•Nut: Schaller R2 Locking Nut, 42 mm.
•Headstock: Caparison Devil's Tail, 15° angle, black, with silver "Horus" inlay and ivory binding.
•Tuners: Gotoh SG381-07.
•Bridge: Schaller S-FRT II Floyd Rose tremolo.
•Pickups: 1x Caparison SH-27F (neck), 1x Caparison BH-IIR (bridge).
•Electronics: 1x Master Volume with 2-way pickup selector switch

Mayones Setius 7Features:
Body : Mayones Setius
Finish Color : Trans Dirty Black Burst
Finish Type : Gloss Finish
Top Wood : Flame Maple Top
Body Wood : Mahogany Body
Pickup Configuration : H-H
Pickups : JB 7 Bridge / Jazz 7 Neck

Thanks

Emeralds sound awesome (Les Paul '57 Black Beauty, triple set)
Blackdogs are one of my all time faves (Les Paul '68, double set) their midrange is so fine!
Riff Raffs, awesome.
Miracle Mans, too much compression.
Painkillers, way awesome (ESP NT-II)

Love the Caparison Horus, my Painkiller equipped one is so far my favorite BKP going into the Hagen.

So for the Horus I am narrowing it down to either a Painkiller or a Nailbomb!!!
What is it going to be? Nailbombs are quite nice as well (prefer the alnico to be honest)!!!

How about the neck?

Sinner or Trilogy suite?

Give a call to Axepalace..
I ordered some pickups there recently and the guy I talked to really knew about what pup worked best with which combo.
The guys sells Diezels and Caparisons so he know those combos well.
He recommended the holy diver for the horus I had at the time.
It sounded killer.

I recently put an Aftermath and Coldsweat in my custom 7 and its the best money I've spent on gear in quite some time. I had them installed with Petrucci wiring and the middle position is just magic for any clean or lead work. Aftermath is different than anyother pickup iv ever played, the treble just has a brightness and bite that I adore but it never gets ice picky. Coldsweat is just awesome too, it has that woody, scooped almost woman tone I look for with a neck pickup but it never sounds wooly and just cuts. Brilliant combo!!!

Hey Halikus,

Thanks but that's what I was planning on getting for my Mayones.
How about the Caparison Horus?
So many options!!!!!!

I use a set of Alnico Nailbombs in my Les Paul, and they sound amazing. The bridge gives me an amazing heavy-rhythm sound while I love using the neck for cleans and leads. I haven't had trouble getting any sort of tone out of Nailbombs.

Personally, I would ask Tim Mills of BKP before making a decision. He knows his pickups quite well, and I have never seen him make a bad recommendation.
