Hi guys,
I have just received my Diezel Hagen and Columbus. I am thinking to ditch some of my pedals and go for an axe fx standard or ultra. I will be using the Axe fx for recording purposes so i thought it will be a good idea to use it as an effects unit when playing live/rehearsing.

Can I use the Columbus to switch between the different presets of the Axe Fx or would i need to buy an MFC101?
Please help.
Thanks

XLR Columbus to hagen. Hagen midi out to AXE fx. I haven't found a manual to see if the Diezel controller can send CC messages or just PC. Dunno to be honest.

sorry mate, I am all new to the midi world. The only midi device I have is the columbus.
I have always used guitar / pedalboard / amp setup.

What are PC and CC messages?

PC = program changes, to change presets (it goes usually from 0 to 127), the Colombus does it.
CC = continuous controller, to change a parameter with its ID (0 to 127) with a value (0 to 127) => for example you can switch ON or OFF an effect (let's say a delay) on the Axe FX if you give it an ID between 0 and 127 (like 33) and send it a value 0 to set if OFF, or 127 to set it ON. I'm 99% sure the Colombus doesn't handle it.

A little googleing would help too ;)

The MFC 101 is an excellent midi controller. If you want to do individual midi CC messages you will need to get that or something similar. I have the MFC 101 and use it with my Diezel amps. It gives me the options for what Reiep was saying earlier...I can turn on/off individual effects on the Axe FX Ultra, as well as do the preset changes. It is really huge to be able to do that. I use it all the time for temporarily inserting effects during songs without changing the complete preset.

If you only need to change presets, the Columbus will do just fine, great controller from what I understand (I don't own one). It is a Diezel so you know it's great!!

I understand that the MFC 101 is a larger amount of $$, yet I would recommend that (or something similar) if you want/need to be able to change individual effects. It gives you other options as well because it is a Fractal product and links to the Axe. You get to use the Axe's tuner, control tap tempo, use expression pedals, etc. Definitely worth it IMO.

FYI, I also heard tell of a new Diezel controller that is in the works. Anyone have any word on that??

so if I understood well... I can create a preset -let s say a reverb effect from the ULTRA over channel 4 of the hagen- for a lead sound. I can then assign it to a columbus program. let s say number 3. Will it turn on when I press number 3 on the Columbus while playing live? and then I can switch it off by let s say selecting number 1 on the columbus which it might be the rythm tone (channel 3 on the hagen) i will be using???
Is that right?
Thanks reiep and gtarlover. much appreciated.

Yes,

Sounds like all you need is a preset switching controller. The Columbus will get you there.

Have fun!
