I've been using my Diezel Herbert for about six months or so. I play a moderate to heavey rock with some parker, musicman, and flaxwood guitars. Channels 1 and 2 I have pretty much dailed in but I just been struggling dialing a solid tone for channel 3. I would like to use it as my main distortion but it seems not to cut through the mix at all and doesn't seem to have the same presence or volume as the other two channels. I've change tubes from the stock 6550 to 6L6 hoping that might help but it still reacts the same. Is there something that I'm doing wrong or is channel 3 just not going to do it for me? I was just wondering if anyone had some helpful tips or some eq setting because it's really been bothering me. Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading

Sincerely,
Jay

Should cut through the mix fine...especially with 6550 tubes. How do you have your amp set up and what cab, other gear are you using in addition to your guitar and tunings, etc. We can go from there to further help you.

Channel 3: gain=1, volume=11, treb=11, mid=3, bass=2. mid cut on but only using it as a volume boost really. Using a Diezel 4x12 rear loaded cab loaded with vintage 30s and a Basson 4x12 rear loaded cab that had eminence 125 legends. Using a line 6 M9 stompbox modeler but only for fx, trust me no distortions! My guitars are a Parker Fly Deluxe, Flaxwood Rautia, and a Musicman Axis so all have pretty high output pickups. Tuning is CGCFAD. Does that help? Thank you

Please tell me the serial number of the amp.

Thanks,

Peter

I use the 3rd channel for rhythm and the second for lead.
And I have no trouble getting through the mix. But I have turned the mid knob fully open.

So maybe you could experiment with more mid

That's a lot of gain of channel 3. I couldn't turn it past noon on mine or it got lost.

Peter, serial number for my Herbert is 001/1141. Sorry for the late response.

Hello Jay,

it´s nothing special with this serial number.

First step would be to try a new tube in V2 position.

Well I just had the output tubes replaced about two weeks ago from the stock 6550s to 6L6s. Should I still put a new tube in V2? And if so what would you reccomend?

Thank you,
-Jay

V2 is a preamp tube (the 2nd from the input jack) and for the third channel only.
So replacing your output tubes does not effect the preamp tubes.

But which one to consider - ask the master ;)
