Hey Diezel Users,
I owned a Diezel Herbert. I have checked lots of amps and I think the Herbert fits perfect for me.
Know I´m trying to get the best tone for my taste.
I would like to have the 3rd Channel more clean but also powerful with a good portion of sustain.
(without a “scratchy” tone if I play palm muted)
The 2nd Channel sounds awesome, too, but for my taste less powerful.
The music that I play;

More Samples;

My Setup:
Diezel Herbert MKII (Original Tubes)
4x12er ENGL Celestion V60 (sounds OK, a bit „muddy“ )
2x12er ENGL Celestion V30 (sounds better)
2x12er Mesa Boogie Three Quarter Celestion P90 Black Shadow Speaker (more Mids, but also a „Scratchy“ tone)
TC G-Major

I don’t want a new 4x12.

With what tubes/Cabinets/settings do you have reached the best tone?

I´m happy for every answer!

Rock´n´Roll!!

My first suggestion; don't play your Herbert through any other speaker cabinet but a Diezel speaker cabinet. Then go from there.

My second suggestion; try increasing the CH2 volume knob. It's located between the gain and the treble knobs on CH2. :)

I have to echo this sentiment. I got my Herbert and played it through a beloved Mesa oversized 4x12 and it sounded good. Then I grabbed a matching 412 Diezel cabinet and it then sounded AMAZING. It was the first time I ever experienced the truth behind a "matching/designed for" cabinet pairing with a head statement.

Those ENGL front load cabs are supposed to be pretty good. I'd either just sell it and buy a Diezel cab, or if you can come up with some V30's for a good price, just swap them into your ENGL cab and go with that. For tubes I'd go with KT77's.

You can mod the preamp to be less "scratchy" on the 3rd channel. Peter did a few tweaks on my Herbert (e.g. less scratchy-fizzle on ch2 and more on ch3) and they were fairly simple. If you don't live close enough to send in your amp or go there personally, then I'm sure Peter can tell you which resistors or capacitors you can change to get you channel 3 less scratchy and to work on the distortion/saturation, so you or a tech nearby can do this for you.

About the cabs: In my experience the ENGL cabs can tend to sound scratchy/harsh with Diezel amps. I agree that a Diezel cab with V30s or V30/K100mix might work better, but honestly if it's too much trouble for you to get a Diezel cab, then there are other great sounding possibilities. I really like the sound of my Herbert through a Marshall 4x12 with V30s, for example (despite missing low end etc...).

For your curiosity, my setup:
Herbert Mk1 EL34 (with a couple of modifications making it more mid-oriented and less harsh) through a Diezel FL 4x12 with a V30/K100 mix. I only keep the K100s in there, because they really help me to hear myself when playing live or at band-practice. I always just mic the V30 for recording or live. Also I find the FL 2x12 w/V30s sounds the best (but I'm sticking with my 4x12, because it looks sexy).

My settings roughly: mids cranked, channel volumes pretty high, mid cut intensity at 40%, mid cut level also very high. Treble, bass, presence and depth are somewhere noonish and adjusted to the room. Running the preamp levels pretty high makes the amp more mid-focused and gives it more growl. The mid-cut is on everything but clean.

I say, you go look for a more suited cab and if you're still not pleased send an email to Peter about how to tweak the Herbert for your needs.

Thank you, RJF and Kev. I think that really helped me.
I will try your suggestions.
