So there's someone selling a herbert head for 2700, which sounds like a great deal....i have a Diezel Vh4 and a mesa road king II...considering getting the herbert and selling the road king ii, but wanted to get some peoples thoughts....the road king ii seems to have a ton of tone options but requires a decent amount of dialing in to get it....i love vh4 channels 1-3 but the sound clips of the herbert sound pretty convincing too...and i'm a big fan of impulsive buys...what are your thoughts!

I am also a impulse buyer and I say go for it!
Thats a good price and if its not what you want....sell it.
I owned both the VH4S and the Herbert.
they are 2 different beasts.

what is the whole external bias i hear that some of these have while some don't?

Mine was a 2008 and had the external Bias. Allowing you to swap out different tubes and bias it yourself with a Multimeter without tearing the amp apart.
Great feature!
The Brand new ones dont have this feature any more.

that seems cool!

i bit the bullet and got it, he cut it down to 2500 shipping included. no external bias tho, 2005 model.

can't wait!

Thats a great deal!
I am sure you will have fun with it and know right off the bat if you like it.
My favorite channel was 2 with the + switch on and Mid Cut not engaged.
Great amp!

yep, i thouht it was a sweet deal...only negatives is no external bias and ch3 led light needs to be replaced, the blue light is beautiful! i'll have to find a way to fix it!

Congrats! There's no doubt that you're going to love the Herbert. Replacing an LED isn't a big deal if you're handy with a soldering iron. Had to replace one on mine as well

Cool! Is there a website that details how to fix the light?

Not that I'm aware of. What was recommended to me was to use wire cutters to remove the burnt out LED leaving just a bit of the old one's legs already soldered into the board. Then just solder your new one to the old one's legs that way you're not actually soldering on the board itself. If I remember right, the board should be marked + for the positive side of the LED which will be the longer leg on the new LED. It should be pretty self explanatory once you get the chassis out.

$2500 shipped? This economy is pissing me off, I'm watching the value of my stuff slowly tank!

you wont regret that purchase one bit. Get yourself a good ABY box n run em together...then get ready to smile & cream your jeans!!

Exactly....I mean, someone must be pretty desperate for getting rid of a great amp at that price. Just isn't right and screws up things for others that are trying to sell them. You pay that premium for it and then let it go for almost less than half. I remember one wing nut on here who was selling his Einstein for way less and messed it up for me when I was selling mine. Fortunately, I was lucky able to get what I wanted for it and got my Herbert.
