I wanted to give everybody my review on our new amplifier after spending some time with it. The Schmidt is a 35 watt class A amplifier with footswitch included. The footswitch provides switching of all three channels, effects loop and reverb. The footswitch runs via phantom power of a simple guitar cable. Each footswitch button is highlighted via a blue LED light so you can easily see what is active and what is not on the controller. The amp (head) is smaller in size then the Einstein and looks fantastic. I will post pictures of the amp later so please be patient.
Channel 1
This channel is one of the prettiest and richest clean channels I have ever heard. The warmth and clarity are insane. Chords simply ring and and sustain beautifully. There is a tremendous amount of touch sensitivity to this amplifier on each channel in addition to some brilliant tones to be achieved via rolling back on the volume knob of your guitar. Doing this doesn't cut amp volume, it just adds tonal options and they are wonderful and plenty. Switch pickups and again, there are so many tones available. Add some reverb and you have a lush bell tone characteristic that is breath taking. It is a very musical reverb and certainly not overpowering or harsh in any way. I can see this channel being used for virtually any style of music needing a beautiful clean sound. This amp can do country, jazz, blues, rock, anything.
Channel 2
This channel is fantastic. It has a lovely warmth to it and begins where channel 1 leaves off. The ability here to get into some crisp chords with a little spank make it a delight to play. Up the gain a bit and you are easily into Malcolm Young territory. I might add that the Schmidt is easy to play and addicting. I can't remember playing an amp that was so much fun to play and that did everything so well. By this I am referring to volume roll offs and pickups selector changes with so much brilliance and character. There is such an open and smooth feel to the amp yet it is so responsive and crisp. It seems to do everything you would ever hope an amp can do and do it correctly no matter what the need or the style you happen to be playing at the moment. If you increase the gain even further you can get into your 80's metal tones with ease while still maintaining all the dynamics I mentioned. The overtones are richness of this amp are something to truly behold.
Channel 3
This channel shares the EQ controls with channel 2 while having its own volume and gain control. Again, it begins where channel 2 leaves off. It has a warm yet tight and clean attack to it. It can do heavier tones then I first imagined and do them well. It has a unique voicing to it. It can get dark or it can get bright, it is all in how you set the controls. I will say it is hard to make this amp not sound spectacular. Up the gain and you are in Lynch heaven or anything else from that genre that we all know and love. I will say the Schmidt is not going to excel at down tuning your guitar 8 steps and playing 210 bpm. What it will excel at is anything else imaginable. It sounds great with every guitar I threw at it and I really like the Schmidt through a rear loaded hemp cone cabinet. The overtones and clarity along with shimmering dynamics made it a dream to play. It simply does everything right in my opinion. It makes me want to play guitar and keep playing guitar. When I am not playing the Schmidt, I am still thinking about what it can do and it makes me all the more anxious to plug back in and discover new possibilities within it. You can even increase the volume and decrease the gain and add even more tonal options. Working those two knobs alone provide you tons of options. It is truly a beautiful amp inside and out. I feel that this amp will be a studio musicians dream. The Schmidt will also open up many other people to the Diezel line of amps. Those of us who own a Diezel product know of the versatility and build quality etc. This amp is certainly no different. I also feel it will attract players from other genres of music that may have not given Diezel Amplifiers a fair look in the past.
To sum all of this up, I can only say you must try this amp to believe it. The simple use of its controls provide so many tones that the options seem unending. It is a players amp for sure...a tweakers amp that no matter where you set any of the controls, it still sounds good. Dare I say a tweakers amp that requires no tweaking, it simply provides beautiful options. However you decide to set the controls, I know you can not help but smile and say wow, I had no idea it could do that! And I assure you, it does all of "that" and more. We hope you enjoy it and I sincerely hope my feedback on the Diezel Schmidt Head with Reverb and Footswitch Included was helpful.
