I have read here that people were having noise problems and system hookup problems using a G-System, due to the complicated way it's functions are designed.

Try going back a few pages to view the topics where this was previously brought up.

no, then not. if you use 2-cable-method (amp-send --> g-in/g-insert-return and g-out --> amp-return) i think it is quiet. but i am not able to check that at the moment though.

i use 4-cable-method and have to implement an ebtech hum-eliminator. that is because the hum most likely comes up and get's highly amplified by the preamp.

but i think in the loop it is ok.

So the g system is noisy thru the vh4 effects loop? I was not planning on using anything but the effects, no disto or comp etc...

G-system all placed in the loop is dead quiet like nova system.
It also colors the tone less than 4 cable setup IMHO.

The little problem is that you'll have the 4 loops and filter/comp blocks in the fx loop..compressor post preamp can be used..wha is for sure better sounding preamp.
..and sadly..this way the G-system is like a nova system because you lose the effects splitting preamp/fx loop.

I have mine for sale...

Brandnew, but I realized that its just overkill for what I do.
If you are interested I can give you more information ;-)
Just shoot me a message.

Cheers, Dominik

Thanks, but can you please explain this a little more clearly for me. All I want to do is be able to switch channels on the vh4 and have some verbs, delays, choruses. I do have a couple of pedals I will want looped in the patches as well, but that's it.

What's the best method?
I would like to just use a volume and wah pedal before the amp and have 2 effects pedals in the loops of the g system and that's it.

Can you give me some insight on how to wire that and the best way?

For sure; just follow this signal path to put your G-system all in the VH4 serial loop: ( i've not retested yet because i've sold my G-system a year ago but 99,9% it will work.)

VH4 send1...>...G-system input gain. (normal ts cable)
G-system out left...> VH4 Return Serial. (normal ts cable)

Make sure to turn off insert lock in global parameters.

No need for hum eliminator/ground lifter.

So with that setup you'll have all the G-system effects block and all your stomps connected in the 4 G's loops in the VH4 serial loop.

;)

I Use a G system on my Herbert. It took a lot to get it really working but now it works great! I use the 4 cable method. I use trs cables (as short as possible) for the loops and the amp in. It switches the Herbert perfect using the midi. On high gain I do get some noise, but I am planning on adding a decimator which should fix it. On TC's forum there is a third party setup bulletin that was extremely helpful in reducing noise and dialing it all in, for both a live setup and recording. I didn't go so far as to add iso xformers everywhere but other than the super gain setting I don't have much noise at all. I am also running a Road King head on the second channel- so there's a ton of wires and huge potential for ground loops, but it's not bad at all. I had to add an axxess electronics midi switcher for the road king, but the 2 heads switching with effects and spillover really is impressive and versatile. The effects sound amazing with both amps. I ran it on both the parallel and serial loops, settling on the serial (although the octaver sounded amazing on the parallel- like a choral ensemble chanting my leads, on the serial it just sounds more like an octaver). If you have any questions or want more info I'd be more than happy to help- I know I struggled a little with it too, but now it was well worth the hassles.
