People,
Do you think the gain of the VH4 is saturated enough?
I'm missing that actually.
It has a great tone but something is missing. when you pass the gain 2 o'clock it's like it adds just compression and volume. Maybe be because I play at low volume?

Mine is PLENTY saturated, even on ch 3. Ch 4 over the top.

More volume definitely help.

Do you have the channel masters low and the overall master high, or the other way around? Try both ways. It has a major impact on the saturation and compression IME.

Edit: and yeah, Channel 4 is completely saturated by 11 o'clock on the gain knob IME, even on the earlier versions.

It ain't a bedroom amp, although it'll work fine in that context.

I'll take it off yer hands if you're not pleased with it

Non of my Amps ain't a bedroom amp but I got no choice. I believe The VH4 has a different gain structure than my other amps. I like it saturated just like the Uber. In general I don't like the gain past 12 o'clock.

Just put a tung sol on the V1 preamp tube and I really liked it. It's a bit more saturated and smooth. IMO

You might like the herbert better than the vh4 because it is more saturated and is closer to a uberschall.

VH4 is awesome at being the VH4, but it's not going to be comfortable trying to saturate like an Uber... Might not be the amp for you. That's just not really its thing.

Gain
Saturation
Compression

Are we sure we're all talking the same lingo, or at least understanding what it is we're seeking out of the use of these words?

Please tell me what you mean by "saturation". And Les, I'm interested to know your take on "saturation".

The vh4 is saturated as it needs to be and i dont think it lacks. I think its fine but i kinda think the OP is a bogner fan and is used to a wetter gain and thats where the term saturation might come in. I think he feels the vh4 is dry but i would say its not dry, i would rather say what he is hearing is more clairity than the other amps hes played and a clearer gain, so i would say the herbert or uberschall has more of a gainy distortion that is wetter sounding. I hate describing terms like this because its hard to put in the proper words that people can understand what i hear.

Honestly you explained it very well, at least it is christal clear to me...
Thanks.

I have to agree with Les on this.

What´s the size of your pic and how to you handle your
right hand power ?

Hi peter,
I use Jazz III XL. I'm not a good guitar player.Trying to get there! I just love amps and tone.

Guys,
I have just discovered an insane tweak. Chn 3 : Deep all the up maxed presence like 4 o'clock, back up the bass like 9 to 10 o'clock mids maxed and treble 2 to 3 o'clock gain 2 to 3 o'clock as well chn volume at 11 and master volume at 9 o'clock. all what I have to say is OMG.
