I am looking for an effect to be used with my heads (Shiva or Einstein). In fact I am looking for something to put in the loop for Delay, Chorus, Tremolo etc, but might consider to do the 4 cable where Guitar plugs in the FX and the amp preamp is inserted in the loop of the FX unit.

Most important thing is that it sounds dead neutral when bypassed.

I also want tap tempo (my Lexicon MX200 doesn't have any). ideally I could switch channels/boost on my amps too, but that would be an add-on.

Any tips on what I should get?

Wiith a midi pedal you can switch channels with the Gmajor via a 1/4" jack and used for around $250 a great FX unit imo. YOu will have to tweak outputs and your input to get it pretty neutral when you by-pass it.

Least expensive, great sounding multi-fx that sounds neutral is the Rocktron Xpression. I also think the TC Electronic G-Major sounds pretty neutral too (as long as you take the time to set the right input and output levels). Same with a G-System.

Ive been hearing GREAT things about the 1101 from Digitech .

basically it does reverb and delay spillover.
Has some killer Lexicon verbs in it (digi bought lexicon)
has the Intelligent pitch shift with fast tracking .and a slew of other cool effects .
a few guys have replaced the gforce and rocktron as the Digitech is more transparent and is designed to preserve the original amp tones

Well let's say their market research has proven that keeping the tone intact is what guys in the middle/upper price segment care about, so that's the message they communicate, it doesn't always mean that they designed the unit successfully with this in mind ;)

I am wondering what can be done controller wise. There is this Ethernet port, does it mean they will release a foot controller for it? If I see right there isn't even a tap tempo option at the moment. There is still this pedal that can be used (tap tempo to Midi Clock) if the 1101 can take clock for th delay tempo (http://www.ploytec.com/34oneII/).

What I am wondering though: If not the most basic of functions are available, will the unit then be user friendly at all?

Hmm, maybe I'll just use the tonelab and put a looper/switcher in front ...? :scared:

Thanks dudes.

Anyone ever used a Roland GP8? It's a rather basic unit, but what does it sound like? Still any good?

Keep in mind that NOTHING is going to be completly transpernet. Your best bet is to use an external mixer for a Wet/Dry setup or use the slight coloration to your advantage.

I used the GT-8 for about 2 years and I loved it. When I first got it, it was pretty esay to program w/ lots of knobs on the face. After I got the hang of the unit there was plenty of deep edtiing that I could do as well. I used to switch channels on my 5150 and after awile I used it as my clean channel since the clean kinda sucked on the amp anyway. About a month ago I sold the GT-8 and got the GT-Pro and currently use that w/ a FCB1010. I'm really digging this setup. Now I have a few extra loops for pedals and I can do all of my editing on my laptop which makes even the deep programming super easy.

Besides all of this the unit sounds really good. I don't use any of the amp modelling because I have a real amp for that. The FX sound great and there are a lot of "out there" sounds as well that are fun to screw around w/.
