I am thinking of picking up one of these guys while I save up for an Axe FX. I am mainly interested in its amp simulation capabilities, not so much as an effects unit. I realize the Axe FX is probably leaps and bounds ahead of it, but is the GSP 1101 at least better than Guitar Rig, Amplitube , etc, particularly in the high gain dept??

It may be a poor man's unit, but has some features you won't find on the AxeFX like USB and headphone out. I like it.
IMO it is underrated. Of course sound- & fx-wise and software-support-wise not in the same league with the AxeFX . . .

I would say so. I own 2 of them and I'm very happy with them.

C49 software allows to upload IRs. How cool is that?

I'm looking at them too, weighing against a POD X3 for metal home recording, while I put back funds for an Axe FX.

I used to run a 1101 on C48 and a Control One. I thought it was pretty cool but only used for effects. I didn't care for the amp simulations but I'm not the best with processors. The effects are good though. The only thing I hated is the effects loop in the 1101 is VERY noisy with some amps. The Axe-Fx is far superior in amps sims and effects. You'll love it

I thought they gave up on IR's?

I dont have one, but I have been watching all the update drama, because I have been considering getting one...

EDIT: I was just reading about this, and apparently this just came out today! I will definitely be researching. Of all the feature requests, I thought User IR's would probably be the best, and most useful.

You can dial in a USB and headphone jack on the AxeFX. You just gotta tweak it a bit.

The Pod X3 is a very good unit. The frontman of an old band used to record all our tracks and use it live (floor version) and it always sounded great. It was better than my tone at the time (This is before I had the fiddy one fiddy)

The tracks he reccorded were at a much higher standard than most other demos I've heard. All DI'd as well. Plus it does vocals and bass.

I'd personally take the X3 over the GSP. Both very good units.

For you, Dehumanize, I highly reccomend the X3.

Sorry for the spam, but if any of you guys are looking to try one out and save some money, I have one that's a little over a month old. Bought from MF for $420. I'd sell for $320 shipped.

lol

I can't believe they updated for the IRs!! Now I have to rethink my whole setup to take advantage of this

Just wait and have a look if the update is as cool as the specs tell us. I've updated yesterday evening . . . I will post my impressions here within this week.

I didn't particularly care for mine. The editor was handy, but a little buggy. Not a poor man's AxeFx IMO.
