Dirty Fingers vs. 500T

I can only go off of the 500T in my Explorer vs the Dirty Fingers in my Epiphone LP Prophecy at the moment.

The 500T in the Explorer seems to shine in the midrange. It's got a nice oomph and boxyness to it. Total Coheed and Cambria sound, but is it because of the guitar it's in? Maybe! I've also had the 500T in an SG. It gave the SG a nice bark and bite, but there are clearer sounding pups out there.

The Dirty Fingers seem to have great focus in the high, mid and low range. They can bring life to an amp, making it sound a little juicier than usual. You can get that Aldrich warp to the sound, but not so much the Aldrich midrange. They have great clarity, they're tight, and are pretty damn musical. They're not distorted as the name might lead you to think, just a nice hot pickup offering clarity across the board. I like them alot.

I'd pick the Dirty Fingers over the 500T.

PS These are my thoughts with distorted settings. I honestly can't remember using either much for clean. I tend to grab a Strat or PRS for that kind of stuff.

Bareknuckle cold sweat : Way better Dirty finger
Bareknuckle PainKiller: Amazing version of the 500t

Don't mean to highjack the thread but how do you like the Prophecy?

I couldn't put the Prophecy down when I was playing it in the store. The neck was super fast, the pups were awesome, it was better than most Gibsons I've played and owned. I tried the black one with EMG's but it just didn't sound or feel like the cherry red one I bought. It proudly hangs with my Les Pauls and PRS's.

Ok I have dug into this. I played my buddy's sykes les Paul loaded w a dirty fingers and it blew me away. It was just so warm and responsive. But loads of tone. Tight on leads n syncopated rhythms. Anyway I had a chance to buy a 500t. I put it in my les Paul thinking it will be great like the dirty fingers.
So installed plugged in and FAIL ! It was loud yeah it had boat load of gain yeah. But to me cold n lifeless.
Pissed I bought a dirty fingers to see if I'm nuts.
Played w 500t hit standby
Installed df n played. Exactly what it felt like in my buddies les Paul. Rich warm tight tone!

So to me big difference. Played thru Diezel Hagen into Diezel 4x12 k 100s.

I'm a fan of the 500, big tight bass, and very strong in the very high mid and treble range. My Gibson Gothic explorer with it's 500 is one my best sounding guitars.

I like the Dirty Fingers better, but both have too much grit in the highend for me. So I would replace either.

I always liked the 500t and I have one in my lp and it is great. After playing with one for a while other pickups seem weak. I want to maybe try a dirty fingers in my lp custom. Originally Gibson made 3 different versions of the dirty fingers in early 80's but they never took off.

I just got my DF brand new from local music store. I love it. Notes jump of the les Paul.
