Dirty Shirley tube question: why 5881 vs. 6L6?

I know it comes with 5881 but can it take 6L6 as well? Watching some older Amp Show vids and seems like it used to come with 6L6.

Why the change and what would be the difference in sound and performance?

Entertaining the thought of DS 1x12 combo and have some NOS 6L6 at home that I could swap in.

It always had 5881 power tubes. I designed it around them. You can use 6l6 tubes if you like the tone.
