Anyone else notice how, once you upgrade to the Herbert, how you never use overdrive and distortion pedals... ever!

Peter should advertise the Herbert as the amp that saves you $1000 (or more). With my Orange and Mesa heads I was always chasing tones and buying overdrives (Klon, Boiling Point, Tubescreamers, Lovepedals, etc.). Now, I rarely use them. They are great pedals though!

I'm pretty sure this holds true for all diezels. I've always believed the best distortion/overdrive comes from an amp itself. It's hard to make any amp sound sweeter than it does by itself. Although, some amps really do need some help getting there *cough fender cough*. I have an einey and I highly doubt any overdrive or distortion would do anything but take away from it's amazing gain stages. With that said fuzz is fun sometimes.

If you want a different sound try different speakers or a diff cab or better yet get another diezel. :P

I bought BJFe pedals, Klon and others - my list is far too long. I sold the lot and it funded an Einstein :D

Totally agree. I have a MI Audio Tube Zone. Absolutely great pedal, can be used as a booster, compressor, overdrive but Einy does not need any of these.Nevertheless Tube Zone will stay just to cover our back.

As for pedals used with the Herbert in general, I do. The amp takes pedals so well it's ridiculous.

Ch. 1- MXR Dyna Comp or Barber Tone Press
Ch. 1 BB Preamp #1- 50% Level, 50% Gain, Treble 10:00- Diezelized Dumble
Ch. 1 Xotic EP Booster, used before or after BB- Diezelized Dumble on Crack
Ch. 2- BB Preamp #2- Full Clean Boost
Ch. 2- BB Preamp #3- Full Clean Boost, Gain at 8:30- Think Eric Johnson
Ch. 2- DOD YJM 308- Flutey, Fluid with a little quack
Ch. 2+- EP Booster- Great for a bit of a kick or volume
Ch. 2+ BB Preamp #2- Full Clean Boost- Searing and Wild

Granted I use low output pickups and 40% less gain than 90% of Herbert users the amp itself
has quite a few sweet spots on it's own where the treble, mids and bass all align for tonal bliss.
Do I have to use pedals, no. I do because I can and I like what I hear. Users choice, the Herbert is incredible to begin with.
It is fun to use OD's to paint different overtones and sometimes compensate for inherent faults in certain guitars.
And yes, I have three BB Preamps.....

i agree. i love diezels alone, i love em with pedals. there is no wrong way when you achive a good tone, and pedals + a diezel done the right way can achieve some really killer tones.

I use a Transparent Overdrive in front of the Herbert.
Dont change the Tone at all.....just makes it MORE of the same tone!

I would hope you would agree, when you did your rig run through I stole all of your settings !!!!!
As soon as I get my Suhr Andy Wood Signature I will have it ALL... :D

I love my bb pre amp with the gain just cracked open on channel one.

Herbert doesn't need a boost? I've got to play one of these sons of bitches...

I don't disagree that adding a little something on Ch1 may add dimension/coloring for a signature sound, but I don't play much on Ch1. On Ch 3, boosting does little or nothing as the Herbie is already there

Yep, Herbert doesn't need any kind of boosting. It's already super tight on it's own and very crunchy. I've noticed the same with ENGL amps too, no need for a boost.

Boost pedals are a pain in the butt to deal with anyway in my opinion.

No way !!! A Modern with a built in Mandolin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have only found OD's useful with my Diezel for unity gain tone shaping.

Diezels need no level boosting as they are already at the sweet spot.
