Some of the clips I've heard sound incredible...others not so much. Anyone have first hand experience with one?

Yes, lots....

Loud as fuck before they start to really do their thing...

Overall I really liked the tone, but there is a sound that trails single notes and other chord voicings thats best decribed as frizzle fizz farting - and its not ghosting. I've owned 2 RSA23's and they both did it. So did the 3 others I played. Deal breaker.....If you call Fred at D13 to talk to him about this he will stop just short of calling you an asshat that really doesn't know much about anything. Ask Jason Wallis about his experience.

That said, the JJ100 is a bad mofo and I really really like some of the other models he makes...Fred's bedside manner makes it a bit hard to deal with them at all...

Shots of the past ladies:

This one never made any sound - couldn't figure out why

The two on each side of the RSA23 simply destroyed it...no contest

O.K....all of that said, if the frizzle fizz fart trailing note thing could be cured, I would get another but this time a short box without the click channel and just hit it with an OCD. IMO the regular channel with the OCD sounded way better than the click channel.

I had an RSA 23 for a couple months. I liked it in alot of ways. Freds amps definately have a high quality sound to them and are very dynamic and responsive. The harmonics just dripped out of the RSA 23. it was very 3d sounding. it did make some wierd noise where notes would get all phasey sounding. I called Fred on this and he insisted that is inherent in a "good amp" and there was no issue with the amp he sighted that since Mcartney guitarist never had any less than positive feedback, I must be cluelss.. mmkay yeah sure whatever.

Well, the amp may not have been broken, but if that is an inherent quality of good amps, well I must only like crappy amps like older Marshalls, Komets, Wizards, Bogner, Soldanos, etc. They all sound like ass.. but at least they don't phase o fizzle into oblivion..

I had the JJN 100 too. That sounded like a sterile Marshall JMP with a huge heap of low end whallop. Very lifeless, but huge. It totally lacked warmth and was very one dimensional sounding. FLAT>>>>

In a nutshell, THE RSA 23 is a very good sounding amp with lots of great tones, but it makes a funky byproduct sound..

Thanks guys! Sounds like I'm going to pass on the /13 then.

That whole fizzle by-product thing doesn't sound too cool to me :aww:

I played a couple of /13 amps in a store in Nashville so take it for what it's worth being a store demo..... but I too found that they had this wierd fuzzy phase stuff happening if the amp wasnt clean. Cant remeber what two models I played but while the cleans were quite good and they may make a good pedal platform..... there are plenty of amps out there that are much less money that will do that IMHO.

No problem,

I will never own another divided by 13 amp for that reason. Plus Fred is a bit too high on his horse for me.

Have you played a Komet 60? That amp is phenomenal and cops a somewhat similiar vibe as the RSA 23, only better. Much much better..

The amazing thing to me is you know there are guys over at TGP who know some of these amps sound this way and that dude can be an ass hat but you'll NEVER see a post saying what we have here. I just wish you could find good objective info over there but I think thats a hard thing to come by.

Yeah, it is not politically correct to have a negative opinion about a beloved boutique builder like FT over at the GP.

hmm.. I think I might have to troll a herring over there. care to join me anyone?

Since you have valid issues with the amp, I don't see it as trolling.

I too am suprised to see some negative comments. From just casually browsing the gear page it seems that Two Rock, /13, and the Axe-Fx pretty much are the end all in gear....
