Hi guys,
I have a DLX module with my mod50 and have borrowed a T/D from a new found friend of mine (Maca) down here in sunny Australia. I wanted to A/B the two modules to see which type of clean i like. Apparently, an original Twin has a diode or solid state part in it (somewhere), but the deluxe is all tube. Therefore, the original Deluxe is characteristically darker and not as glassy (bright) as the twin.
I put the two modules to the test and set all knobs at 12-O'clock. Sure enough, the T/D had noticeably more "sparkle" than the DLX which was darker--but a really nice-type of dark. I adore both of these cleans!!!!! So i tried tweak the DLX to make it sound like a twin (save me having to buy the T/D). Hours past with no luck--but then--EUREKA. I got the DLX to sound EXACTLY like the T/D (to my ears anyway--you may disagree).
So, and if you have the two modules, try this:
..........DLX Ch.1--bass,middle, treble at 12-O'clock, gain at 12-O'clock and master at 10 O'clock, bright switch on "1" and bass boost on "0"
..........T/D Ch.1--bass,middle, treble at 12-O'clock, gain at 12-O'clock and master at 2 O'clock,
bright switch on "0" and bass boost on "0".
I just cannot tell the difference at these settings--but, and this is a big BUT--my ears are reasonably "fresh" to the world of tone as i have no experience with the original amplifiers that these modules represent--so don't take my word for it--you must try it for your self.
Thanks
