Does the rear input on your AxeFX sound different?

Mine does.... I want to use that back input because I have everything in my rack and want to keep things nice and tidy with my wireless, but the rear input is horrible, anyone else experience this? Thanks!

Cheers,

Kit

Same experience here. I remember a response on the fractal forum that said only the front input is optimized for plugging a guitar directly in.

Wow... brilliant idea, lets have a rack unit designed for guitar use only have the front input be ideal for guitar!!!

....thanks for the reply though, thought I was kinda going crazy because it seemed too ridiculous to be a reality LoL.

Any tech should be able to install you a parallel jack on the back with the same specs. It is just a jack and a shielded wire.

What I mean is: you can ask a tech to drill a hole into the back and install a parallel jack to the front input jack.

I see, obviously I know nothing about that kind of stuff lol, thanks though! I may look into that!

I noticed the same...you'll also notice that the front input sounds different if you change the input setting in the menu

Doesn't this all boil down to the 'secret sauce' or something like that

Yes, the front input is optimized for guitar input. I just cut a small hole in the mounting bracket of my wireless to run a cable from the back to the front, no biggie.

Anyone know if this was changed on the Axe-FxII?

The front input is still optimized for guitar input. I was a little annoyed at first also, but really there are so many ways to use the AxeFX, it can't be perfect for every configuration. Having the front input for guitar makes sense in more setups than it doesn't, IMO.

Respectfully completely disagreed... a rack unit MADE for guitar that is a professional piece of gear only having an optimized input on the front is completely ridiculous IMO. Never seen a single wireless rack unit that has the outputs on the front...

Hope this is resolved with the Axe II, if I ever even get my hands on one LoL....

Thanks for the replies in any case though fellas, glad we are on the same page, unfortunately I don't have any empty spaces in my rack, and I'm not about to go drilling holes in any of my gear :)

Of course you can use the rear input and make it sound good. RTFM :D .

If you want to use the rear input, you have to manually set the global input configuration to "rear". You will probably have to set the input pot a bit higher, but I can tell you it's going to sound nearly identical to the front input even taking into account the fact that the front is heavily optimized for guitar input.
