Doesn't someone here have a VTM60?

I just scored one on the cheap and was looking for some insight, settings, preferred boost (if any), miniswitch configuration, tube recos, that sort of thing.

Not that I needed another amp, but I'm easy that way.

That's the amp that is based off of Brian Jay from Keel's Jose Arrendondo modded plexi. I have talked to Mark Cameron about the VTM's alot and he says with everything set right, they can be killer sounding. Unfortunately, I don't know how to set it.

They're pretty cool amps, especially considering the price. Very loud too...my VTM-60 is the loudest 60 watt amp i've ever heard. I bet the 120 is pretty insane!

Here's my typical settings (they change a bit all the time):

Gain - 8
Master - 2 or 3
Bass - 7
Mid - 4
Treble - 4
Presence - 1

Gain 2 and Low 2 dip-switches engaged, the rest are off.

I always use a boost/overdrive with this amp too... It's sorta like an old jcm-800... really needs a bit of a boost in front to get the most out of it.

I should mention; it's a very bright amp. I'm tempted to clip the bright cap on mine, but i think i'm gonna try to tame the highs with some better pre-amp tubes before i go through with that.

I read that's a pretty common mod, the bright cap clip. Some people are just snipping them and some are cutting then bridging a resistor. I might have to email Jerry@FJA and see what he says about that.

i have one, and love it. both bright caps clipped. it sounds excellent. i need to make some clips. anyway,

dip switches all OFF, except the mids switch. bass around 9:00 o'clock. mids, treble, and presence all straight up. (for my bright, ash, strat-type guitar). with a mahogany guitar, i run the treb up to about the 3:00 o'clock position and bump the mids down a bit. gain about 3:00 o'clock'.

i love my vtm60. great sounding, feeling, playing amp. built like a tank, and just about as heavy. very responsive with guitar volume changes, even at lower volumes, but especially around or above 3 on the post volume. i can just plug straight into it and be happy. i love it b/c its this old, ugly-assed peavey that doesn't get any respect until you turn it on.
