Was wondering if anyone knows what pickups he uses in his strats?

In his humbucker loaded Strats he has a Seymour Duncan Holdsworth humbucker in the bridge, which is a custom shop pickup. In the neck position of the Gold Strat its a Duncan Lil 59, and in the Black Strat it's the stock Fender Noiseless singlecoils.
In the old '68 Strat he plays on the Electrolesson DVD, the neck and middle singlecoils were custom wound by John Suhr. The bridge singlecoil was a custom shop Seymour Duncan Classic Stack, wound a little hotter and fatter sounding. It was known as a 'Mojo Stack'

Me too Ains.. I first became a huge fan of Doug back when he was playing Strats 90% of the time, and i really enjoy the tones he gets from them.
Also, maybe its just me noticing this.. but i find that when Doug plays his Strats, his playing/improvising style changes a lot. I notice a lot more soulful, melodic phrasing comes out when he's playing the Strats!

I think that's cos the material he plays on the strats is Dio and Burning Rain and there is more to work over, lead wise Dan.

Well seeing as he's back out on tour with Dio now, hopefully he'll be using atleast one of his Strats on the UK leg of the tour. I'm going along to the London show, can't wait!

Dan, my favorite clips from Doug are Three Minutes, Sky Blue and Black, and Wes Coast...I don't think any of those would have the same vibe if they weren't on a Strat!

Those songs are awesome Jeff! Yeah i agree they have to be played on a Strat, they have that big fat singlecoil tone that sounds killer!

So what singlecoil do you guys think I should go with? I love that tone. Any thoughts on the Duncan hotrail for the bridge?

IT is like Skunkstripe early 80s Lynch haircut, he lost that and some of the fire went away

Get this, this suprised me. A few years ago I saw Dio, Deep Purple and Scorpions. Doug handled the old Rainbow stuff beter than the Dio/Sabbath years stuff. The Dio stuff was great too. He sounded great on songs like Children of the Sea etc., but he killed Man on the Silver Mountain & Long Live R&R. The black strat sounded killer. The black lp custom did too. I"ve got some Aldrich Pickups in a Silverburst LP Custom. They sound good. By the way, Steve Morse never played a bar chord that night. What a monster player he is. I really wonder if Doug actually likes the Marshall Vintage Modern heads. I saw Robin Trower using them a couple weeks ago. RT makes anything sound good though.

I have to tell ya, for me, the best strat pickups for hard rock to Metal are the Yngwie pickups; HS-3 in the bridge and YJM's in the neck and middle. They sound incredible wth any level of gain, theyre quiet and articulate, still retain Strat single coild charateristics IMO and theyre noisless. I have 2 Yngwie clones that Im building( They would have been finished months ago if I wasnt so dang busy) and I can wait for them. That is far and away my favorite strat..

Bump for this. Those are just regular Fender Noisless? I thought they were Duncan Classic Stacks.

Love Doug's playing and tone... however, until he goes to the single-coils in that clip, I hear no difference between his strat tone and his Les Paul tone.
