I'm thinking of getting a DR Z Airbrake to go with my Renegade, "or that should read", my wife is going to get me one before she flips out and kills me......anyone have one or why I should not get one......or a hot plate or something else. thanks.

Airbrakes work great, don't think you will see much benefit with the renegade though- a weber mass is a cheaper alternative. I spend my my money on something else- like a tc electronic flashback delay.

I had the hotplate, Marshal PB100, UA, and weber mass lite. I think they all kill your tone at bedroom volumes. The weber cost the least so, if you have to buy one and want to save some cash, buy the Weber IMHO also for the price of these units, maybe buy a bedroom amp instead? I don't like attenuators, they can't work, IMHO. They can knock a couple of DB's off but, after that they kill the tone. IIMHO

the power plug works great. unbelievably good for 90 bux. you lose a slight bit high end, but, you also lose a slight bit high end when you turn your amp down.

Over the weekend I've had a THD Hotplate and a Dr Z Airbrake on loan and have come to the conclusion that it's a good job I didn't buy one of them. I was expecting awesomeness and what I got was, well nothing, nothing that blow my socks off and nothing that gave a big loud guitar sound at low volume. Of the two I thought the Airbrake gave the best sound but still I could get a better tone by lifting the gain and lowering the volume on the pre amp and leaving the master where it was. This has been a big let down, but has saved me some money. In the end everybody was right...if you have a Master Volume you don't need a attenuator.

Good call borrowing attenuators and trying them out. I find that the Renegade has enough different knobs that affect volume that an attenuator isn't really that useful.

The other good thing is that you can't buy a Hotplate for love or money at the moment because the company that made the metal shells for THD has gone bust and THD are having a major problem finding a replacement manufacturer. I'd have bought one 6 months ago and then lost money selling it on ebay, so yeah to the world wide recession.

Well done. The Renegade has a very good Master Volume (coupled with ch. gain). It's not always the case, unfortunately...

I agree will all of you, but I have a situation, I record at home at night, (must be in silent mode) thought de XLR out of the Renegade, wich sound great by the way, now in order to have good signal to radio,
the volume of the amp must be at certain volume , now what I do is use the Hot Plate as a load only, so the amp is in silent mode, but their is good volume to maintain good singal to ratio for recording.
On top of that the output goes to a mixer wich I mixed my fx's out to the recording unit. Also I tried sending from the output of the mixer to a stereo amp and it sounds really great with stereo fx's (always using the
Hot Plate as a load only) I guest it all depends what you want to do.

Ditto on the flashback, bought one in Nashville while on vacation. It's cool!
