I just purchased Pro Tools LE 8 and it came with BFD Lite. I have NO idea on how to use it.
What is the best and easiest way to create drum tracks to your music?

easiest way is to get some midi drum files, import them, open up your drum program on an aux track, and then route the midi track to trigger the drum program. you may have to adjust where the notes are to match up with how BFD is setup

or you can get a midi trigger, either keyboard or drums and trigger them that way

Where do you get the midi files from?

superior is great, but for less money you can get Addictive drums, sounds amazing, comes with midi files, is a breeze to use.

I did not like BFD lite much

I am using submersible music's kitcore deluxe. It's a really good value for what you get. Comes with midi files, and the samples are good. easy to set up and use, plus you can download the whole package directly from their website.

I'm one of the cheapest guys on the planet, so I googled "free drum tracks", found a couple of two-bar samples I liked, imported them into the free audacity program, cut and pasted the samples to 7 minute tracks each, and imported it into my multitrack unit. :) Works great for plotting out ideas!

Addictive Drums are WAYYYYYY better than BFD.. i have the same package you got with a mbox 2 pro.. the Bfd is the Lite version which is pretty useless... I use addictive drums now and its like having a real drummer playing. It comes with TONS of pre programmed loops and you can make your own with limitless combinations of beats. Definitely a MUST BUY.

I downloaded the trial version The Addictive Drums, it sounds great!
Thanks!

This is a cool thread. When I had my studio last year, the quickest and easiest way to lay down drum tracks was walking a few feet away from my computer and guitar, and sitting on the kit, and playing the groove! ;)

Now, that I'm back in "bedroom studios" I don't have the luxury of a kit! So, even as a drummer I'm considering sampler drums programs.

That's why I'm looking into it as well. I'm surprised more of you guys haven't chimed in with what your using?

I really like the intuitive layout of EZdrummer, seems like you can quickly put down a groove and fill track, but think it might be too limited in the long run.

The sounds of Superior Drummer well sound Superior but the website & manual suck on teaching you how to lay down a groove & fills.

I think I'm going to end up buying Addictive drums because it falls somewhere in the middle.

EZ drummer is decent, but when it comes to the drums sitting in a mix, I had WAY better luck with Addictive drums. Superior may be different, but EZ, it just doesn't sit as well for me. Addictive is more like a real kit to me, not to mention all of the sweet processing you can do with it.

Superior would be a good choice when using E-drum triggers, its mapped out well with templates I believe. heck, alot of engineers replace or supplement a real kit with samples anyway... :D

So I'll throw my 2 cents in...I use EZ drummer mainly for two reasons, it's reasonably priced and it's really simple to use in most DAW's, (I use Reaper). Oh, and third...it sounds pretty decent. Admittedly I haven't tried Addictive Drums or EZ's older brother, Superior 2.0 but for what it's worth here are a some sonic samples if you want to get an idea of what you can do with EZDrummer.

I would give BFD a chance. I remember when doing the research to buy a drum sample program, I was leaning heavily towards it. Never bought it though. So, I pretty much still on the market for one.

I ended ordering Addictive Drums from MF for $179.00, figured i couldn't go wrong!

i am considering buying steven slate 3.0 drum samples, and adding the midi files for rock and metal from groovemonkey.

that would be 149 plus 49 bucks.

just a little more than addictive drums.

the addictive drum trail program was super easy to use.

getting it to work with reaper was not!

By the way, I bought Addictive Drums and an Axiom Midi Controller yesterday. I've been working on it for the last 24 hours.

AD sounds great, and the Midi controller is great and works well. It's very complicated for me, as I'm new to Midi though.

Here's the problem...

It's all good for me to practice guitar and even write the first stages of a song or a few ideas. The problem is that I have about 12 songs almost ready for an album and I'm trying to make final demos. I've been a drummer for 14 years, and it's really frustrating for me because I can't make it sound like me! I don't want to use the provided sample beats, because it's for finished songs that need to sound like me, like I wrote them.

I can see myself spending the entire night programming this thing, and while I'll end up with good sounding tracks, it would still sound very odd to me as it won't sound like I played them :aww:

I'm still glad, cause from a guitar practicing point of view, I can see me enjoying this.

I am also using a cheap method. I ripped a copy of Fruity Loops Studio 4 a while back and just drag and drop from the enormous library I have acquired over the years. FL has a very intuitive interface. I just drop the drum mix stereo into my multi track via USB then record guitars, keys, bass, vox. I'm not looking for studio quality mind you merely using it as a point of reference.

If I'm feeling really lazy I will play kit with my Triton Rack. Just hat, kick, and snare to find the rhythm.
