Lots of crap flowing over the web about 500xl pickups... Judge for Yourself !

Fight between:

Seymour Duncan Dimebucker SH-13, Bill Lawrence USA 500XL, Wilde 500XL (Billy & Becky),

Recorded with:

Gibson BFG - Laney GH50L - Marshall 1936 - Shure Sm 57 - Onyx BlackJack

Cheers,

Bartek

sounds great but sounds like the same track 3x to me...

Bartek - which one did you prefer?

Sometimes pickups "play" and "feel" differently, and it doesn't translate to a recording.

Can you describe your findings?

So true! Unless You're sitting in front of studio monitors You won't be able to tell the diffrence right away... That's one of the reasons I did this video.. I've seen hundreds of posts on the web about the "true & original" 500xl pickup ;) for some reason the USA 500xl is considered a fake [sic!]... anyway it all comes down to presonal preference and working with the gear, let working be the keyword here 'cause there is too much home grown stories around ;)

Sure! Seymours Dimebucker is a good way to go. It's newest in design, it sounds good in the mix. It's smaller in size (500xl is a BIG pickup).
It is twice the price of BL USA 500xl but it simply feels like 500xl ver 2.0, You know what I mean ?
Wilde 500xl has too much bottom end. It lacks the clarity of the other two.

How I felt playing those ? With Dimebucker bass strings just rip Your skin off... I just wanted to get louder and louder, with USA 500xl I loved the leads, harmonics jump out like crazy... With Billys & Beckys pickup I felt... Like a need to change the pickup ;) no disrespect, they probably make many great pickups... Just their 500xl is not good enough for studio recording.
