Twin Mod-50 4-way Rig (dry, wet, piezo, synth
Here is a repeat of a post on Huge Racks Incorporated about this ego rig. I've taken it out to over 15 shows now up and down the coast, and it is an amazingly versatile and great sounding system. Last year’s Hectic Watermelon NASA rig got downsized into a two-headed monster with a slightly smaller rack. Going with 2 Egnater MODO 50 heads will give me a few less preamp voices than the Egnater M4 and ie4 dual preamp rig, but it be more redundant and easier to move while keeping all the wild and woolly features from the previous rig (info below). I'm currently using the 2 Earcandy Buzzbomb cabs for wet and dry guitar and EV full-range cabs for piezo and synth. I used to mic the dry cabs to feed the wet ins, but that was just too much of a hassle dialing in in the less-than-ideal club gig situation. Running the dry all the way over into one cab and splitting the wets to both sounds just fine to me. There really isn't much of a difference between that and the full monty W/D/W rig I used to haul around. The MOD 50 FX loops are full of routing options so I have them all patched into the Switchblade (in, series send and return) and chose the preamp section I want to use and then send the signals to whichever cab(s) all in the programmable Switchblade software application, Javablade. I almost always have an A/B Switchblade program setup that allows me to either toggle or latch switch between the two configurations programmed with those two little foot pedals you see under my Axxess FX-1 foot controller. The pedals on the board are used to fade between the A/B settings. This is a very powerful feature of the Switchblade. Yo can either toggle between signal path or fade between them. See the signal flow diagrams below form more detials.
All of the You Tube Live Clips
Here are a bunch of live videos of two different big Egnater rigs. Some videos are line recordings whereas others are just camcorder, but you can hear the amps pretty well in all of them I think. For the record, I have my mids up pretty high for this style of music in a trio setting compared to the more modern scooped sounds - which the amps will do very well if you want to dial that tone too.
Individual clips and radnom notes:
Cruise Control Live Video:
This video shows how I try to fake Dregs with keyboard punches, etc. SL rhythm and boosted SL lead.
Bionic Hillbilly Live Video: Previous rig and hair from our CD release concert at the San Diego State concert hall.
Little Black Baby Jesus and Sacred Watershed LIVE Video
Here is a live video with the old mond rig that shows how I like to make a big old honkin’ Switchblade mega setup with at least two preamps and fade between mutlipe signal paths that are always on. For this whole video, a program change is never sent; I just fade between stuff with Exp or A/B pedals on the FX 1.
The initial psychedelic guitar extravaganza, Little Black Baby Jesus is in two parts: an Eventide backwards delay fest interspersed with Hendrixy clean chords. Then it moves to an obvious hat tip to EJ. Then it is off to the races with Sacred Watershed that mostly fades between the chorused rhythm+piezo+synth and a lead patch with mod delay. For the reall tweakers out there, the “mega setup” is described in excruciating detail with diagrams in a previous thread: http://www.hugeracksinc.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=30377
Steve's Stunt Double Live Video: Tribute to Steve Morse, Live at the Del Mar County Fair - best place to hawk CDs this side of the Mississippi! Rhythm is SL through 6L6 head in half-power mode, lead is is boosted SL through EL34 head in full power mode with volume backed down. Sometimes the lead melody is also layered with a little Lucky Charms Irish pipe synth. Also, notice there are occasional Organ rythm stabs that hit on the off beats. This tune is done with wo different Switchblade A/B presets.
F Street Fulano Live Video:
Here's a clip from the opening of our last show on 3 July 07 at the San Diego Fair. The tune is F Street Fulano - our porno jazz number. You can see how I like to morph between the two Egnater heads, one with a Twin pre, the other with the COD for a range of rhythm and lead sounds. The Twin signal path has a Fulltone Choraflange, and Eclipse reverb and mod delay coming through the two cabs, and a piezo and K2500 Gooshey lead coming through the EV Full Range cabs. The COD signal path only has the mod delay. I have it all dialed in so there are various useful zones in between the two extremes. The dry signal just hits on cab and the stereo wet signal gets routed to both using the two MOD 50 heads' power sections like a stereo power amp patched through the ever-so-useful Switchblade. The FX lets me morph them with a pedal or punch them all the way with either a momentary or latching Boss footswitch.
