Interested in this amp circa 2001. Can anyone ID it and suggest a good price? Thanks!

edit: I guess with the 2001 date it is the less desirable 3 channel?

You are correct, it is one of the less desirable 3 channel Rectos. Mesa has made two versions of the 3 channel Recto, one being the multi watt, the other being the one pictured in your post. I believe they started building the multi watt around 2010 or so.

For what it’s worth, an easy way to tell which is which from the front panel is to look at the areas with blue “circles” in the pics below. The old 3 channel has one switch below the channel selector LED, whilst the Multi-Watt has two switches, one above and one below the channel selector LED.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the Multi-Watts say 100W Head in the logo where the older original ones will say Solo Head.

But yeah, the 3 channels will be broken up like in the pictures with the switches and lights in-between.

Reg 2 channels won't have that, one channel is the top row and other 'red' is the bottom row.

2001 is a pretty early 3 channel dual rectifier so not sure which revision it is. Not much talk about 3 channel revisions so i guess not a ton of difference. My 2004 is revision E which I think is the final and most common.

$1800 is bit steep even if it looks brand new still.
I'd bet they don't get more than $1200 but who knows.

IMO there's nothing at all lacking in an original 3-channel, given you like the rectifier sound to begin with.
The Multi-Watt is a bit brighter and tighter, but the OG is a bit fatter and juicier. It's apples to apples, just different strains of apples.

If you use the loop then get the OG modded to serial loop. Cheap easy fix.

Not everyone is aware of this, but the 3-channel Dual Rectifiers went trough revisions as well. I am talking about the models from 2001-2010 before the release of the Muliti-Watt. You could still try to find out, which revision you have, but just be assured, that if you state your 3-channel DR as revsion xyz it will probably cause confusion.

I saw an interview with Tremonti where he said that a 3 channel was his favorite of all of the Recto’s he owns. I’m assuming he has a decent collection.

I have a 3 channel that Imo sounds better than my buddy’s rev G. Not that I care but how do I tell what transformer is in it?

Can't really tell you how to ID the trans. I found this interesting info though regarding the early model 3 channel that fluff found.

SERIAL NUMBERS:

Rev C appears to have originated in the R-016100 to R-016200 serial number range, with the first models being produced in late 2000, around the October to November time frame. The earliest confirmed Rev C+ is now R-017882, leaving the range of Rev C to approximately:

Production Range: R-016100 to R-017881

Again, this is not definitive. This is speculative based only on confirmed data that is available. As additional serial numbers are confirmed, the range will be narrowed accordingly.

TRANSFORMERS:

The Rev C is an anomaly as far as transformers go, as it launched using the Mesa Mark IV/2 Channel Rectifier (Rev F/Rev G) 561140 power transformer! Here are the transformers as used on Rev C:

PT: 561140
OT: 562105 (Dual)/562181 (Triple)

I have and had a lot of Rectos, love them, but they are all different. Single vs Dual vs Triple vs Tremoverb vs different revisions of the same. And the tubes in them make a huge difference.

Just checked and the one I picked up last week is...

S/N: R-016624
PT: Couldn't find it without removing the chassis (I'm lazy)
OT: 562105

Hope this isn't the next IIC because its going out to Hermansson later this week.

Looks like you got a three-channel Rev C. Nice!
