Dumb question for Flying V owners..........

Classical style w/ your left foot on something to elevate it.

Yep, simply put your right thigh in the crotch of the "V" and the top of your left thigh should be under the lower wing about two thirds of the way towards the neck.

I played Gibson Vs for many years and loved every minute. Should have never sold them - especially the 82 Korina reissue that's now worth a small fortune.

I was never 100% comfortable with the V I had. It was always kind of a pain in the ass IMO. It was great going back to a Strat shaped guitar.

I never could sit down with my V ever. Always stand up. I also started playing a RR1 so I hate strat shapes.

They're not even comfortable standing up if you ask me. Doable, but not exactly comfortable to play, since you have to hold the neck up with your fretting hand while playing.

Strats do this to me but not my RR1 V. Wierd. It sits there not moving at all if I take my fretting hand off.

A leather strap will usually take care of that problem

i do the under the leg thing. its a little odd at first but you get used to it.

Yeah I do the classical "stance" as well.
Sit on the edge of the couch.
Take your right foot and lay it on it's side so that the inside of the foot is pointing at the ceiling.
Take your left foot and step on the inside part of your right foot.
Put the crotch of the guitar so that it's seated on your right leg, the bottom edge will be resting on your left leg.
Play like a classical wizard.

I do the leg thing too. I don't get all the fuss. I find my V, at least, to be correctly balanced. I do not have to hold the neck up. It sits right where it should. I would imagine there is a difference with different brands, cut of the body, woods and strap button placement. In my experience with my Gibson V, it's a quite comfortable guitar to play sitting or standing.

i used to hate playing v's but i really like them now, gibson v's are the easiest for me to play sitting down, i also have a king v and a esp alexi and the king v is easier than the alexi.
