Is it possible to use ebony for the entire neck or would that be a bad idea?

yea it can be done.....It's expesive, large chuncks of ebony like that arent cheap, But I'll ask Brent what he thinks.

Or, better yet would be something like a 5 piece neck. Do you think that would add onto the price a lot?

I'm about to graduate and start working, so the day I might own a Gutierrez is drawing nearer!

ummm. damn. i'm not sure. wood choice is stressful haha. i don't want to pay extra for exotic woods when that money would be better off going towards a floyd or SS frets. in all honesty, the main thing with wood i'm having trouble with is aesthetics, since i prefer my guitars natural. I love the way an ebony fretboard looks, and mahogany wings, but the neck wood, i'm not sure about.

while i'm at it, is there an extra charge for bareknuckle pickups?

Take a look at the price list it's been updated with a few more items...

I think the Bareknuckles would definetely be an extra charge. The Brands Brent are using standard are:

EMG
Duncan
Dimarzio
Bill Lawrence USA
Nordstrand

He's in talks with Nordstrand on doing custom "Gutierrez" pick-ups...

Why not go with Maple neck? Tried and True with the Mohogany wings and Ebony FB.

Just a thought.

I don't like the way maple looks with mahogany wings . Is there a list of woods that don't cost extra?

How are nordstrand pickups?

And also, what's the projected wait time for a guitar right now?

I've always thought that a 5 piece mapel/ebony would look pretty shapr

I agree, but I don't have enough money to pay the extra 5 piece fee. Maybe I'll have to put my dreams of a custom guitar on hold

Ebony is one of the most dense woods in the world. It would be far too heavy and the guitar would not be balanced. Bad idea. Only use it for a fretboard.

strap buttons can be repositioned to prevent neck dive with heavier necks

Seriously, wood choice is annoying. I'm in the same boat. I have everything else figured out. But, I can't decide between a few different combinations of Mahogany, Maple, Korina, Brazilian Rosewood, and Macassar Ebony.

What's the upcharge for Brazilian and Macassar Ebony? I guess they fall under the "exotic" wood category...so, $150?
