Whats everybody using these days? I need to retube the poweramp section and I'm looking for opinions. I'm NOT a fan of SED =C='s which I have in there now, brittle and gritty in my opinion. Sounded OK at first but faded quickly. I don't really have the funds for NOS.

I'm looking to tightened up the flubby bass I'm getting............

Thinking:

JJE34L
Shuguang EL34-B (been good to me in the past)
Electro-Harmonix 6CA7EH
Tung-Sol EL34B

Any experiences and suggestions are appreciated!!! :2thumbsup:

I've used the Tung Sol's before - dyno little tubes, those...
Mullard's may be a nice change.
JJ's are standard in the new releases.

Ya, you've got some choices - just do your research, but let us know what you choose in the end

i'm digging KT77s, but i like that darker, sorta EL34/6L6 hybrid kind of tone.

the Ruby BHT EL34s that were in it when i got it sounded pretty good to me.

I emailed Doug Preston at Dougs Tubes and he recomended RUBY EL34BHT. The guys never steered me wrong before....Maybe I'll give em' a shot.

Funny....I just put an order in yesterday for BHT's at Doug's. They are good for 600 PV which is substantially higher than anything else and even a little more than the SED's. Gonna give them a shot and see how they go.

FYI....I have never given Tung Sols a fair shake. But, I am running them in an amp right now that SED's cannot even stay together in. So, the TS's are pretty good at handling higher voltages FWIW. I have been a die hard SED fan. But, that may change.

Did you order "average distortion"? Thats what I think I need to fall into the narrow bias window my Ecstasy has......Trying to avoid a resistor change if possible.

I'd like to try Siemens RFT's and I'm willing to got that high money-wise if they're that good and can handle the voltage.........

Yes, average distortion.
