Someone told me tube pairs weren't inner-outer in a 20th Ecstasy, but V7-V9 and V8-V10
Is this correct, and it is the same for a 101B ?

Do you know what tubes are out of the signal at half power, and is it safe to pull the unused tubes?

Thanks guys

in my 101B, yes the pairs are v7-9 and v8-10. (i don't know about the 20th.)

i'm 99% sure that, in the 101B, the pair that is on in half-power mode is v7-9. that's what my chart of old bias readings implies.

i have no idea if it's safe to pull the other pair or not.

Actually, it's V8-V10 that are active in half power mode. Here's Charley from Bogner's answer:

"V8 and V10 are active in the 1/2 power mode. You could pull V7 and V9 if you want, but it won't make any difference because they are already out of the circuit.
You could check the bias with the tubes pulled and see if there is a difference."

gah! there's no reason it would be different in the 101B from the the 20th, so that means i gotta redo my notes.

interesting that he says the unused tubes are out of the circuit. in my bias meter, i still get plate voltage and current readings for them, they are just lower than the pair of tubes in use.

i also see the plate voltage go up in the in-use tubes in half-power mode, compared to in full-power mode. ~510v in full power; ~523v on the in-use pair in half-power.

I did specifically ask about the 20th though, maybe it's different in the 101B, but as you said, I don't see why it would be. If you care to try pulling them in your 101B, let us know how it turns out
