"Eddie's signature..... he plays the riffs that a clarinetist would in big band music and plays it like a kid who is slipping and sliding as he walks across a lake of ice...and loving every bit of it!" - One of the comments from this YouTube video

I had this (and another one) on cassette back around 1988-89. Had Yngwies demo on cassette back then as well.

Not a shot at you OP, but some of EVH genuflection online since his passing is starting to make me cringe. Case in point, that YouTube comment. I’m as big an EVH fanboy as you can find, but now I wish he was still alive just so people would stop trying to wax poetic about his musical leftovers. Cool to hear some rare or unheard stuff, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see that his final bowel movement was bronzed.

Yeah, what I got from that audio was that he went out of tune just like the rest of us and his 'soundcheck repertoire' was just a bunch of repetitive noodling just like the rest of us. And I preferred his earlier less chorusy tone.

No offense taken, and I agree with you that the EVH idolatry can get old fast.

Ed released a sonic collection of bronzed bowel movements once...otherwise known as Van Halen III. LMAO

I do like a lot of the rarities. More often than not I hear something that I like, but Ed has made some real clunkers to be sure.

i wonder what the going rate would be for authentic eddie farts in a jar like i see these chicks doing?? i bet he could get $119.95 minimum

Yeah, it’s cool to hear little tidbits here and there, with alternate studio takes and stuff that’s been released over the past couple years. It has reaffirmed my belief that we got the best stuff on those original Warner Bros. releases. I just wish they would’ve made more music.

I think Van Halen should’ve gone down in history as the unquestioned greatest American rock band ever, but for that to happen they would’ve had to put egos, dysfunction, and addiction aside; be better managed post Roth and not have long periods of dormancy; and tour more on the world stage. I fear their lasting legacy going forward is that the band’s name is more synonymous with drama than great music.

lol i get where you are coming from. its weird how when someone dies, people all of the sudden have the desire to express their truest appreciation for the person, but when they're alive, they're just sort of there and nothing special. here in detroit, it was like that when Aretha Franklin died. The straight up ass kissing got quite over the top. they even renamed an outdoor concert venue after her.

with eddie, i think people are really realizing the magnitude of his influence on what we see and hear in rock/metal now.
I think people are also attracted to his authenticity. Eddie was one of a kind, and thats rare, especially in todays world of influences and copy cats.

You're making a whole lot of sense.
