How do the Edwards LP copies compare with the MIJ Tokai LP copies?

Been looking at grabbing another LP at some point soon, but i don't fancy spending big £££ on a Gibson again. Not to mention all the Gibsons i have played from the last few years have been majorly inconsistent.

I would like to know as well,I would really love a Goldtop version

Dan, IMO from those axes shown:
Orville by Gibson > Fujigen/Orville/Epiphones (MIJ) > Edwards > Tokai (#<LS120)

Awesome pics Olaf!

So do the Orville By Gibson LPC's all have Ebony fretboards? I saw some Orville LPC's which had rosewood boards, but wasn't sure about the Orville By Gibson's.

Also where's the best place to buy these guitars from?

Few of the ObGs have ebony boards (just the 57 RI), fewer of the Orvilles (often one can see super dark rsoewood on later Orvilles with a sticker instead of a serial number), all Epiphone LPC 90 (not 80) have ebony boards (awesome guitars, made also by Fujigen) and of course Edwards.

The Edwards falls in between a LTD and a ESP.

Alot of people believe Edwards is a low end ESP,this is not
the case,Edwards is a low end Navigator, that's fact.
IMO they are the same as ESP,I have a Edwards Horizon III
and it's the exact same as my ESP Custom shop Horizon.
As for the Edwards LP's,I've never owned one but I have played
a few and they are great guitars,Tokai aren't what they used to
be but they also good guitars,I would gig one live.I have 5 Les Pauls
and I won't be buying anymore,I'm going Japanese for now
on when it comes to Gibson copies.

I don't have experience with either, but if you can find a Kaman GTX 36 LP copy, they are a great find! They are very cheap and they actually play and sound quite good. My Black Beauty copy is one of my favorites to play, despite a cracked (and now repaired) neck.
The stock pups aren't terrible, but not great either. A pickup change may be necessary. I kept the neck pup in mine and put an Evolution I had laying around in the bridge.

It`s not too bad then :)
I have an Eclipse, and it`s lovely. I tried an LTD Eclipse, and it was more than okay.

I`ve been lusting for a JS model for years.

Thanks for the info Olaf!! :)

The 78 LPC i used to own had a real nice neck shape, it was a slimmer neck than the 57RI Goldtop i used to own. Kinda somewhere between a 50's and 60's neck.. I'd imagine your 76 LPC is probably just like mine was.

Which of these MIJ LP's have a neck that's close to that shape?

'76 (maple): thinnest
Edwards = Orville standard = Tokai: 50s-60s mix (nice for everything)
Epiphone/Fujigen: more 50 than 60s
ObG: almost 50s (pretty fat, not as fat as a Custom '68 Authentic though) - actually its perfect for riffing and chords (for me a bit too fat, but the sound . . . . so full !)

So the Epiphone/Fujigen has a bigger neck than the ObG?

A 50's-60's mix would be nice for me, since i don't like big necks on LP's. Perhaps the Edwards, Orville standard and Tokai's would be the best choice for me then..

I'm thinking that the Orville, Edwards and Tokai LP's will be more to my liking as i don't want anything with a neck that's much bigger than my old '78 maple neck LPC. I love the look of this Edwards Jimmy Page LP Relic :)

Those are really guitars, Dan. I had two (still have one, the other is played by my bandmate), both customs, and my neighbour (a pro) has two (a custom-standard, proto model, and also a JS Custom). All these 4 axes are pretty good IMO, esp. for the price and they are available new, so you don't need to think about fretwear, worn bridges, tuners and such . . . just the JB/'59 in many of them isn't my jar of whiskey :D

Are you all talking about new production guitars? What I've read about Tokai is that they are hit and miss. The Orville by Gibson seem to be the most consistently good of what's been mentioned.

Were I looking for an upper end MIJ Gibson I'd look at Navigator and Bacchus as well. For an older model the Greco Super Reals are nice.
