By none other than the RockStarNick!!!!Just recieved it back and thought I'd try it out before I had to run and let me say this one should be in the lineup,it's the spawn of the SL2X and EG5 as Eric I think put it   It flat out kicks ass!!!!!

HHMM that sounds intresting ,I freaking love the clips I have heard of the SL2X from classic riifs ,to higher gain and solo tones .it sounds amazing
How does an X modded 3/4 differ? It would take a lot to dethrone that SlX .I must have listened to clips 200 times

I've got the EG3/4x on order from Jeff because I was thinking that it might be exactly what I'm looking for. When I get it, I'll make some A/B clips of the SL2x and the EG3/4x. I'm pretty excited to get it.

Glad you're digging it Jason!

EG3/4x is simply adding the "x" mod (the upper midrange bite) from the SL2x to the EG3/4.

It takes the thick mids and tone of the EG3/4, and adds in a more modern presence and attack and bite.

Sounds incredible, and easily reversible too if you don't like it.

Yes it does!!!

Hey Flump ,would love to hear clips of SL2X and EGX when you get them and have a few minutes.

One question for you guys ,how do you run effects .from an M4 or E2 without the loop .I am assuming this complicates the matter if ya wanted to use something like an L6 M13 , Nova system ..How would you set it up do you require and additional mixer in the rack?

I am digging this new run on tighter more aggressive mods .the EG5 ,SL2X, EG3/4X the EGMK ???(mesa mk proto) Very cool to go with the classic flavors..

Hey Nick. PM me. I think I might have you convert my old single channel EG3. I have the EG3/4 of course so I might as well try a little something different on the old single. Let me know if you're willing.

PM'd buddy! Should be no problem.

i would really love to hear a quick clip.

set the standard eg3/4 with all dials at noon, boosts off

then set the eg3/4x the same way.

hell

i would love to hear that comparison with the sl2 and x version.

nothing fancy

a few chords, a few riffs and a few licks 30 seconds would do me nicely!

Do any of you (Nick?) find the X mod allows the module to sound bigger or cut better in a band mix? It will be a while before we gig so I am wondering from those who are gigging if they notice that at all. It is hard for me to tell from just jamming with the guys. Stock and X both have plenty of mids to cut in my opinion.

All I can say is TRY IT Rich in the mix and see.I don't play out so I can't help you but my family keeps telling me to turn it down so I know it cuts threw walls just fine

If you have the stock EG34 and the EG34X next to one another, all knobs at noon, the EG34X will cut better.

If you take the treble knob on the stock EG34 and turn it to around 3:00-4:00, the "cut" will be almost the same, but they will still sound very different.

I see your point Nick...and I do not like the sound of the stock EG3/4 with the treble that high!

On the SL2X however, I think the stock SL2 cut just fine!

I think all the stock ones cut just fine...minus the MHG.

It's a different flavor. Marshall tones to me always had a great bite and grind in the upper mids. The SL2 for me was to smooth and too polite to be a "true Marshall" tone for me. It didn't sound like the Marshalls I have been accustomed to...so that's why Jeff went to the drawing board and drew up the X mod. I didn't want ice-picky highs...but wanted more bite, growl, and modern presence with the tone. That's really what the X mod is for. Move away a bit of what's Egnaters signature sound a bit...but to get people like me really happy with the tones. Same w/ the EG34X mod. I always liked the EG34 stock..but it was too polite and such for me on the upper mids / top end. I like some "hair" on my tones on the upper mids and top end.

Stock or X...it's fine either way. Just depends on your taste. I personally think the SL2 and EG34 w/ the X mod yeilds a bit more clarity especially in the upper mids and top end. But...there's no wrong way or right way. Just depends on what YOU like...what speakers you use...what pickups you use...and what guitars you use. For me...especially in a recording session...this yeilds perfect results for what MY EAR is looking for. YMMV.

Couldn't have said that shit any better :D I totally dig the X mods

I'm diggin' em too man!!

Stock, modded, whatever floats your boat........that's why these amps are the SHIT!!!

Damn, I just love my gear............... ;) :D

Eric is dead on, it really is personal preference. I know everytime I used the stock SL2 with the guys, I was always amazed at how fat and mean it could sound, yet smooth and could sing a baby to sleep. I changed it to the X version but have yet to really give it a whirl with the band.

In my opinion, Egnater's version is a better version of a Marshall which is why I liked it better than any Marshall I have owned. I think in stock form it has plenty of growl and punch and I don't notice a lack of clarity. With the X factor, the big difference to me is that it has more sizzle and hair, which is not necessarily my thing. Nothing wrong with that, just my preference. I never felt like I needed more bite.

I have to say, I saw it richedie's way for a long time and I may be changing. I have really been playing the Rebel 30 a lot (a lot!). To the point where I will be switching over to the new Rebel 30/OCD/BB rig. It simply does not eat up all the sonic air in the room. The whole cutting through the mix concept makes it seem like you are giving something up and it does not sound as "full". But it doesn't really give anything up, it just makes it easier to play and hear your actual part in the mix, and you hear the whole band better that way. Nick has my EG3 single mod. I am trying it there first. If it has that same thang going on, I'll be happy and probably proceed with an Egg shop cap swap for my EG3/4.
