Hey ,

I was wondering if the Eg4 older single channel would be tight enough or cut through for rythm in a 2 guitar band or is its main use only lead .

Would I be better looking at another module

I can't speak for the EG4, but I just bought the EG3 single channel. It takes some serious tweaking to get it dialed in, but once you do, it sounds great.

That being said, it's a really thick sounding module. Frequency bump in the lower midrange, whereas the SL2 has that upper midrange, traditional British thing going on.

What kind of amp is the other guitar player using? what type of tones are you after?

PS. Check your PMs.

Wow, I don't find the EG3 hard to dial in at all. It sounds goods almost anywhere I set it. Interesting. Nick, I think the EG4 would work in that situation, but why not get a dual channel EG3/4? I have talked to Bruce about this. My whole sound is all about the EG3. When I got the dual channel EG3/4 I noticed right away it was different on the 3 side. Less thick and spongy and more tight. I sent it back for mods which were very succesful, although I often still have my EG3 single on tap because I love it so much. But the point was, during my conversations with Frank & Bruce they informed that the EG3/4 is really more of a EG4/4, meaning it is based on the tonal structure of the EG4 MUCH more than it ever was the EG3 (which is why I didn't hear my sound in it). See where I'm going. EG3/4 is a dual channel EG4.

Cool info 3 Mile... never knew that. So you'd say that the EG3/4, stock, is tighter than the EG3 single?

I might like even better! :D

3 Mile ,

is the older single 4 the same or is it tighter and brighter than the dual 3/4?

Yea, The EG3/4 ... stock ... it really is tighter than the old EG3. I had mine loosened slightly and it works for me but it's still tighter, which of course makes it cut better in the live setting. Jeff and Bruce we're probably smart to not castrate it completely dispite my attempts to replicate the old EG3. They got as close as it needed to be, but still a somewhat of a different animal. I was playing it last night and it really is quite spectacular now that I listen to it more carefully.

Sorry Gtr31, for some reason I thought that crazy guy Rock Star Nick started this thread. Any way. To my ears and from what Frank and Bruce told me at the time, the older EG4 is pretty much the same sound as the new EG3/4. I think it would cut it just fine. I know the rep is they are smooth but it has very nice upper mids and highs as well. 3 way bright switch too. Should not be any problems getting spectacular high gain tones out of it.

I have both versions of the EG4 and they are very similar. Much more than the EG3 as 3 mile pointed out.
The single channel EG4 has almost the same vibe going on as the newer version although the single has more low end to my ears. It is minimal though. I find all the single channel modules to be this way though when compared to the duals. The fact that the dual module has the 3-pos bass switch kinda nullifies this point anyway.
The EG4 will cut for rhythm or lead with no problem. It's a great module to set the gain @ 2 o'clock and then ride the guitar volume to clean it up. At least it works for me.
I find the trick to setting the EG's to work is to dial in Treb, Bass and Mids to your liking and tweak the presence as needed for the room, guitar, band etc. It works very well with the presence frequency on the Egnater heads.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to all who have answered here .

I wasn't able to fund a Mod50 at this point so I wanted to do the next best thing ,and load my RM50 head with Eggies ..

I was really not sure if I should go with the Eg5 or Eg4 as there were 2 single channel mods available that I found ..

I thought and thought what would these guys do ...

...so I bought BOTH

YES!!!!!!!!!

EG5 - gain at noon, bass boost on 2, dial back bass = ridiculous rhythm tone
EG4 - knobs in any position = instant lead heaven
