Just wanted to share because I spent some time tweaking last night and I think I have EG5 dialed in just the way I like it! I was running with the master volume about 1/2 way up, using EL34 power tubes.

Just thought some of you guys might be interested in giving these settings a try.

Gain - 10 oclock
Treble - 10 oclock
Mids - 12 oclock
Bass - 10 oclock

Presence - 11 oclock
Density - 11 oclock

The biggest change for me here is backing the gain off. This module just has so much! Backing the gain down from Noon to 10 oclock dramatically increased clarity to my ears while still having great saturation. I just never had set a high gain module on less than noon before :D but WOW. Absolutely killer.

I don't have the 5 but I like what you are doing. It's always a good thing (I think) to use as little gain as you can get away with. This results in a sound that translates better to the audience and in recording as well. Of course if the musical style is, as you guys say, brutal, then let it be so. I use my EG3 at about 1 o'clock, which is a low gain mod to begin with. I love some of the other high gain mods below 12 also. Great idea.

I can't wait to get my MOD50...I plan on owning this module as well.

Which speakers do you use with it? Vintage 30s?

Joe,

I use the Egnater 1x12 which has a Classic Lead 80 in it. Its a fantastic sounding cab that no one would believe is a 1x12 if you blindfolded them. Surely it doesnt sound like a 4x12 but it sounds every bit as big as my buddy's Bogner 2x12 and my old Soldano 2x12.

Egnater uses the CL80 in 1x12s because they provide a little more bass than a V30. However, the V30 is the speaker in their 2x12 and 4x12 cabs.

EWS,
How does the EG5 sound with the 34's in the power section as opposed to the 5881.

which do you perfer .do you find it closer to an SL2 with the gain rolled back Ie

more open less compressed ....

Its definitely squishier with the 34s. I like it that way but I also like it crisp, immediate and punchy with the 5881s so its hard to say. I just put the 34s in when I got my Bassman to hear the difference there and found myself loving the BMan/SL2 combo with 34s. Then, I just popped the EG5 back in yesterday for a change of pace and fell in love all over again. :D

I wouldnt necessarily say its less compressed compared to 5881s. The attack is less immediate, there is more sag. Its still very tight though.

Honestly, it will come down mostly to which feels better as it sound bad ass both ways. Its really a personal preference on feel more than anything else Id say.

HA! Those are almost the exact settings I think I had for the rhythm guitars on this track I posted in the Viking Rats thread. Sick minds thing alike...

That module sounds incredibely insane with very similar settings, and I use mine with a combo of 6L6 and E34ls and it's The Bomb!
