Rhythm MOD 50 power at 12:00 in low power mode. EG5 B on left, SL2 B on right. Pickup - DiMarzio Anniversary PAF. With new Port City 4x12 OS loaded with Jensen Blackbirds still breaking in. Still learning my way around this new speaker. I have it miced with a lot more cone than I usually use.

So how does this compare to other speakers you have tried? You compared it to a CL80 or a V30 or a G12T75 or anything? The clips sound great man. I'd really like to get your opinion on it. One thing I didn't like about my speaker from Ear Candy (the one jensen makes for him) was that you had to really crank the amp to make the speaker sound at its best. And it had a bit of fizziness to the high end of the tonal spectrum.

Thoughts?

This is a perfect example of how a medium-low output pickup thru a high gain setting can really do a lot to retain clarity. John, that sounded AWESOME. Really clear and REALLY heavy at the same time. Love it.

EG5 still sounds the best when put with a PAF style pu. You can roll back the volume knob and its a great clear tone! Sounds great John got a pair of the blackbirds coming for test in our 1x12 and 2x12.

I really want to hear the blackbirds :). Makes me quite interested :).

Thanks for checking out this tone experiment. I thinks it's nice and full without the real bass guitar in there to glue together the middle. Going for a kind of Helmet-redneck-spy-metal feel for this new tune I started, "The Problem with Poachers."

The Blackbirds are a very well-balanced speaker that doensn't really flatter any frequency. Can handle a lot of power too! Would be jsut killer in an Egnater 1x12 OS, or 2x12 I bet. Just too expensive though... :aww:

Thanks Eric,

The low volume thing could also be a factor of enclosure and room too. Anyway, that Jensen sounded lifeless, cardboard, and thin to me. The Blackbird however records really nicely with this cabinet. I don't hear any of the low-mid bulge that I have to watch out for with my Earcandy 2x12s and the Wizzard, Governor or Texas Heats. I think the Jensen sounds more like a Celestion 12-65 Gold, but warmer with more dynamic response!

Oh that's interesting. I didn't like the Green Machine or the Sugarcones at all from Ear Candy. I don't have my buzzbomb yet either :(. I've been pleased w/ the CL80s as the low end isn't as "out there" as others. From the test recordings I've done, the CL80 is fitting better in the mix much better than any other speaker I have had. I'd really like to try the Jensen's. My Mod50 1x12 combo has a Celestion Heritage 12-65 in it. Can't wait to try that out ;).

Eric

I have green machines in my Buzzbomb, and I have to say that I really like them, it was a noticeable step up from the Gt12-75's that I had in my other cab, I know thats not saying much, but me likey the greenies. I am sure there are other speakers that are better, but for the price I paid, well worth it to me.

later I will try some speaker swapping, but for now I am good

Well, in all fairness, I tired one in a 1x12 which didn't flatter it IMO. I didn't expereince exactly what Aeroic mentioned about it needing lots of volume, but did find that it had ONE volume window that it recorded ok with. Perhaps it really works best in a 2x12 configuration.

When I first plugged into my buzzbomb with EC's, I thought it was too bright and maybe slightly sterile, but over the week, playing it louder, the speakers broke in, and the top end really smoothed out!! Like I said, I am sure there are better speakers out there, but for the price I got these loaded for (before the price hike), well worth it to me, and I am much happier with these over my Celestion 75's, and this cab sounds better then a Vin 30 and GH1230 avatar I had. Could partly be the cab, and partly the speakers. But I kinda grew tired or celestions, so perhaps it was just the change..??..

I really like your new clip though, really sounds warm, yet re-taining that bite and slight aggression. I eventually would like to load my cab with something else to try out.

Well, I will restate that I think the prices on so many of these "boutique" speakers is obnoxious. We'll see if the economy will sustain these prices. Glad you enjoyed the quick clip. ;)
