A subjective topic, but can anyone describe generally the main sonic differences between these speakers.

From the descriptions and less-than-scientific clips on Celestion's site, it seems that on a scale of warm to strident, the Elite80/CL80 is going to be more toward the strident side, while the G12T-75 and G12H will be more toward the warmer side. Is this accurate? (In broad, over-generalized, subjective terms of course)?

Between the G12T-75 and G12H, which one would match up better with a V30 in a 2x12?

I know I have to try it for myself, but I'm trying to narrow things down a bit so I don't have to order a buttload of diff types right off the bat,

Thanks,
Rick

I think a CL80 / ELite 80 is more in the middle. The T75s are more warm / dark...with a bit of sparkly top end...but it's muted a tad.

The combos that I've tried that work well are:

E80 / T75
E80 / K100
T75 / V30

The G12H30 I never liked as it gets too grainy and nasty for my tastes. I don't think a V30 / H30 would be a good combo IMHO.

Eric

Best combos I have tried are Eric's recommendation of the CL80 and K100 or K85 and the other is one I actually prefer now, the WGS ET65/V30 combo!

Rick, you swapping out the CL80s in your TM cab?

Yeah, thinking about it. I am def. going to swap one of the E80s for the V30 I bought from Eric. Started thinking today about swapping the other E80 for something else - maybe a G12T-75. Eric is about the 3rd person I've heard say they like the combo of a V30 and a T75. I feel like the E80s may be a bit too much presence for my tastes...

I agree with Eric above.

H30 = like a V30, but, even brighter, grittier, and nastier. hated it.

V30 = teh suck, also.

T75 = fairly big and balanced

CL80 = more neutral than the T75, but with less top end sparkle

K85 = like a brighter CL80 with a lot more mids.

K100 = haven't tried it.

K85 is a K100 rated at 85 watts. Same tone.

If you are a fan of V30s...I'd try a M75 w/ that V30. The M75 is probably one of the best speakers I've used to date. Running a stereo rig right now w/ a K100 in a 1x12 cab and a quad of M75s in my 4x12. Balanced the volume from side to side...so they were running at the same volume...and damn..it's HUGE!! :)

T75 / V30 are standard in the Bogner Ubercab ...so Reinhold likes them too! :)

Those are designed to be like a vintage Greenback, right?

I tried the ET65 and E80 combo last night. I liked it a lot. Tonight I am going to fool around with a V12, K100, and a G12T75.

I just added the ET 65 last night and that speaker will be staying for sure. I might even add another one so that I can drop both in my TM2X12 and then figure out which speaker will live in my RM50 combo. I really like being able to run all 3 speakers at once.

Weird, the V30 / H30 is one of the more common and popular combos. IN regards to what Gene said about the H30, I mostly disagree. The H30 is commonly matched with the V30 is the H30 has a dip in the mids whereas the V30 is rather boosted. The H30's EQ curve is for the most part the opposite of the V30, but I do agree that it is a gritty sounding speaker.

Was yours a gold labeled anniversary China model?

Was it a Heritage UK model?

Was it vintage?

Was it super-broken in ?

Was it used in a bright room?

I was using a China, not-very-broken-in one, and it certainly did NOT have a dip in the mids. It had the rawest, loudest midrange I've ever heard in ANY speaker.

Maybe it was my old, bright as hell basement. BTW, V30's did sound even worse, so maybe there is some truth to the H30 not being quite as bumped as the V30. But, I would not call it "opposite", that's for sure.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of 2x12s that pair a G12H with a V30. There are also several that pair a Greenback with a V30. Bogner Alchemist pairs a Greenback with a G12H. Arrrgghhhh!!!

I guess if I wanted to try a Greenback/V30 type combo for my Renegade though, I would have to go with the Scumback or maybe even the WGS ET65, since "true" Greenbacks/GB clones are 25W. My understanding is that in a 2x12, the rating of the cabinet is 2X the rating of the lowest wattage speaker. So, if I had a 25W GB and a 60W V30, the cab rating would be 50W, and since the Renegade is 65W, I guess that would not be a good idea.

The ET65 is supposed to be like a G12-65, which was supposed to be like a higher wattage Greenback, right???

The ET65 is great FEK and even better combined with the Vet30! :rock:

Just ordered this combo to try out in my TM2x12. At $69 / speaker, and with really good reviews, it was just too hard not to give these guys a try!

I just might pick up a Vet30. I need to see how the Super V (incoming) and my V12's compare with the ET65 and E80's that I have now.

Isn't the Super V really high output? I am tending to like lower wattage speakers these days for the lower volumes we play. I think that is why I am such a fan of the Mod 50.

Yeah I heard that it is a pretty loud speaker. I have been wanting to try one so I figure I can flip it if it doesn't work for me. I really like the ET65 I just loaded up so I will see how it sits with the Super V, V12's, and E80's before I decide what goes.
