Egnater MOD100 channel switching issue

While setting up for band practice tonight, I noticed the channel switching on my MOD100 was out of whack. First, the amp stopped responding to the MIDI footswitch. I tried an alternate controller & MIDI cable with no success. Then when using the channel select button on the front of the amp, I noticed I could only select channels 1A-3A (not 3B, assuming "3" is the module closest to the master volume control).

In the process of troubleshooting, I removed the 3rd module and fired up the amp. Oddly enough, the footswitch started working. if I installed a 3rd module, however, the channel select button would then only select channels 1A-2B (not 3A/3B), though the footswitch would allow 1A-3A to be recalled (but still not 3B).

Any thoughts? I'm guessing it's some short of an issue with the MIDI board or switching circuitry at this point.

The amp "reads" the modules installed at startup, so if you turned the amp on with only two modules in, and then put the third in, the amp doesn't know to look for it.

Thanks... so that explains part of the issue (why it never finds the 3rd module after being powered up with only two).

Still doesn't explain why it never sees 3B or why the footswitch doesn't work when it's powered up with the 3rd module installed.

Reset the MIDI on the amp. IIRC hold the channel select button in while powering up the amp. If that doesn't fix it, your MIDI board may be fried. The MIDI board is susceptible this if you plug the MIDI cable in after the amp is powered on and are using the phantom power.

I had a similar problem with mine. I sent Bruce an email and he sent me a new midi board. Very easy to install, and it's working great.
If you need help replacing it send me a PM and I'll help you out.

Interesting... I tried the "reset" trick... got the MIDI controller to work when the 3rd module is installed, though I can still only access 1A-3A (not 3B) when using either the MIDI footswitch or channel select button. It's like 3B no longer exists. (And I did try alternate modules in bay 3 just to verify it wasn't a module-specific issue.)

Oddly, if I fire up the amp while doing the reset, it works better than firing it up w/o the reset, in which case it resorts to odder behavior (e.g., footswitch doesn't work at all). So as of now, I can footswitch between 5 channels provided that I perform a reset every time I power up the amp.

Does the MIDI reset clear out any additional PC messages stored in the MIDI memory? Somewhere along the way the PC message for 3B could have been overwritten.

Maybe try to send PC 6 (which should be default for 3B), press the channel select button to select 3B (if you can) and then press and hold the channel select button to store that into memory.

It does sound like your MIDI board crapped out on you though. :aww:

Hope you get it figured out.

+1 I was gonna suggest this as well. Not sure what your using for a midi controller, but it's a possibility that something got changed with the PC or CC.

Good ideas... actually my standard controller is the Egnater 6-button footswitch, so there's not much I could do to screw up the programming with it. But just to be sure I fired up my older-than-dirt Rocktron Midimate and it exhibited the same behaviors.

Email sent to Ian!

Post up the fix when you're all good again. Good info for others to refer to.
