Egnater MOD100 VS Randall RM100

Are these basically the same?

With just higher quality components and MIA rather than overseas?

OR are they fundamentally different?

They have different transformers too I believe, in addition to having other different types of components.

Egnater Mod 100 should take the dual modules??

Randall RM100 should take single channel modules, though I believe its possible to have it upgraded to take dualies.

basically the ultimate ending to this question is are the trans foot prints / specs the same?

I was thinking of ordering a trans from heyboer because I read thats what eggy uses.

I guess I'm just wondering if the same trans they use for the MOD100 would be a direct swap for the one in the RM100

It is a waste of time in our opinion...Footprint for Heybor will not match the CMEC.

I'll take your word for it, you'd know better than me thats without a doubt.

thanks.

Checked it out.

But I just bought a new guitar, and have only had the Randall for about a month.

Plus I think when/if I upgrade to the eggy stuff, it'll be an M4.

I have both and they are similar and different. The Eggie is more refined, maybe a bit more 3-D to my ears with a sweeter top end. The Randall is a bit more aggressive sounding to me. Even with the same tubes, modules, same speaker cab, and same guitar, that the difference is big to me, but probably wouldn't register to the average person listening. In the end, both are more or less the same head, with different components, (Transformers, caps, resistors, etc) and the Randall is made overseas which is not necessarily a bad thing. THe best way I can describe the difference is that the Randall feels like a production head and the Eggie feels like a one-off. I would bet a transformer swap would have a major effect on the Randall.

The guy hasn't posted back with results in his own amp but it looks like Bruce is even a bit curious.

FWIW, a Mercury Magnetics tranny in my Marshall TSL122 made a huge difference. The choke is ok but I'd like to put it on a switch with the orginal resistor so I can go back and forth. I got the PT as well, didn't notice much of a change in sound at all but it sure did make that amp a lot heavier.

I'm curious as to why Jeff doesn't think a transformer upgrade would make a difference in the RM100 and if anyone has tried a MM tran in an Eggy.

I dont think anyone has tried a MM because the Heyboer sounds so ridiculously good! Its interesting but I had a Soldano Hot Rod and a SLO. The Hot Rod had MM and the SLO had DeYoung. The SLO sounded night and day better. Now, how much of that was tranny and how much was something else I dont know for sure, but I bet alot of it was.

Nick, the mod 50 has a Heyboer? I think he was talking more about the Randall MTS. I have been thinking of getting one this summer for some more options and the feel of a 100 watter - although I think a 50 watter always tends to be a bit darker, warmer and fatter, hence more my speed.

I am wondering what a Mercury Magnetics would do to either the TM 100 head or RM100 head.
A friend did this to his RM100 and LOVED it! Made a big difference.
I still wonder if I can only get the thickness, warmth and feel I like only from a 50 watter. The Mod 50's transformer most likely plays a big part because many cheaper 50 watt amps use pretty bad OTs. Marshall DSL50 for example.

Anyone play the MOD 100 by comparison?
