Hi All

I'm a new Mod50 owner, and am slowly gathering modules and learning how they respond.

Using a Suhr Tele at rehearsal with the band - playing though an old Marshall 4x12 with G12-65s - I learned that...

Both channels of the T/D module are fabulous in how they respond and cut through. The 'D' channel sounded great using a Barber LTD for a little 'extra' when necessary, while the 'T' channel sounded a lot more full than when played at home. This module worked very well with the PRS DGT also.

Different story with the VX module: it was heartily lacking in mids - especially the higher gain side - and even with the mids dimed just needed turning up to be heard through the mix. Only used the Tele through this module.

I'm yet to audition an SL, SL2 & COD in the rehearsal room. Anyone got any tips ahead of time so I know what to expect?

Cheers,
Richard.

I love, love, love the VX. But you're right. It's a module that just wants to be played a little louder than the others. Try hitting it with the LTD. That combo works really well IMO.

COD is all about mids. Great smooth OD. There's plenty of great lead tones and mild OD found in that module. The SL, SL2, SL2x are all great modules. It's definitely worth checking them all out. For my style the SL2x works better than the rest, but the SL is a module that if there were 5 slots in the M4, I'd want to keep it. :D In my rig the SL always sounded its best with all the knobs close to 12:00. Neither channel got too gainy/hairy, retained definition very well, and still had some nice raunch to it. If you dime the gain on the B channel, it definitely sings a good bit. All around a great module.

Enjoy your tone quest.

The classic Vox tonestack, on which the VX is based, has a large midcut.

That's "the sound" of a Vox.

You might need to cut the volume on the other modules or something. I don't know.

The VX tone controls seem a lot more interactive than most the other modules. Just like a true Vox, increasing treble rolls off bass. Rolling more bass on to compensate cuts the mids.
Meh, Just turn up the channel volumes. It sounds better that way anyhow!
