I just bought an Egnater Tweaker. It honestly sounds better than my Fender Blues Deluxe on USA mode. So, I'm thinking about selling my Deluxe since I've never been happy with it and replacing it with either a Rebel 20 or 30.

I used to own the Rebel 30 and loved it. I sold it ironically to buy the Deluxe. I like having 2 channels, and I like the dirty channel a lot, but I'm just wondering how the tone of the Rebel 20 would be different. When gigging, I get most of my dirt from pedals, but I just wonder if I should spend the extra cash on the 30.

If I get the Rebel 30, I will gig it by itself, but if I get the Rebel 20, I would probably use it together with the Tweaker and use the dirty on the Rebel 20 and the cleans on the USA mode of the Tweaker.

I've heard a lot of people say that the Rebel 20 has it's own thing going on since it is 1 channel, so I'm interested in your thoughts!

had the rebel 20 didn't like it, love my tweaker. I think the tweaker can do everything the rebel does and more. I also remember the rebel 20 sounding small, the tweaker has low end balls that I didn't get with the rebel 20. IMHO

Good to know! I wish I had never sold my Rebel 30, but we all do stupid things haha

The only thing I don't like about my Tweaker is that it doesn't have the Egnater sound ironically enough

I was all set to buy a Tweaker, played one in the store for about an hour, was nice but a bit too toppy and bright no matter how i dialled it.
Plugged into a Rebel 30 and was blown away, lovely warm, rounded cleans and way way better gain ...... loved it, bought it ;)

Personally (which means this is completely subjective of course), I feel the Rebel 20 is the best damn thing that has ever come out of Egnater in terms of tone. The guitarist in our band played a Gibson LE with MCP Detroiters through the Rebel 20 and it friggin slayed. I played through it with my LP Standard and the result was the same. Raw tonal bliss. Just a great, raw, rock tone. Most of Bruce's designs have that smooth gain that I think everyone who has used Egnater gear is familiar with (hence all the X mods out there). The Rebel 20 is different. It's not smooth. It's raw. That's how I would explain it. It's different from every Egnater product I've had experience with (MOD 50, M4, most of the modules, Tourmaster, Renegade, Rebel 30, Tweaker, etc...).

If you are looking for a small, kick-ass amp that does a raw rock tone very well with a great amount of gain on tap, I'd check out the 20. Go to the store, grab an LP, and let it rip.

Really, if you are thinking about a 20 and a 30, don't listen to anyone here. Take your guitar to the store, try them both side-by-side, and decide for yourself. We can't tell you what YOU like or don't like in an amp. Both of these amps are readily available to check out, so take the Pepsi-challenge yourself and report back.

Thanks for that man! That actually helps sell me a little more on the Rebel 20. I owned the Rebel 30 and it is an awesome "do it all gig amp", but I didn't fall in love with the clean channel, and I like the Tweaker cleans better than the Rebel 30. I'm planning on running the Rebel 20 dirty and A/B switching with the cleans on the Tweaker for a nice gigging set up.

+1 I agree 1,000% I gig regularly with my Rebel 20 and the tone is anything but small. I run mine with two Egnater 112 cabs. I would suggest sitting down with the Rebel 20. You can get a ton of beautiful complex tones from it using the watts and tube mix control as well as rip your face off aggressiveness. I like the Tweaker too, but I think the Rebel 20 is far more versatile. That tube mix dial just blows me away. Mine's close to 2 years old and has been rock solid reliable. Not one single problem. There is absolutely no lack of bottom end in my rig.

tube mix is not a biggie IMHO even the lower watt feature is just a different feel, not
really lowering the volume. I would do without those features, for a lower price or better tone. like the other guy said, go to GC and compare them. Either way, you can't lose, all great little amps IMHO

Update...

Well, my Tweaker died on me after a few hours of playing so I am sending it back to GC. After some deliberation, I decided to get the Rebel 20 instead. The Tweaker sounded awesome, but I think I'm going to let the Deluxe stick around awhile, and go for a more "Egnater" sound.

That sucks, I had the same thing with the first one I got, from GC. I went back and took the floor model, suck.

I loved the R20 but the R30 is better again.
Better everything imo - better tones thru the whole range, more clean headroom, reverb, 2 channels.
A $800 better amp for just $200 more imo :D

I'm not really a 2 channel guy. I get dirt buy using pedals, or turning up my guitar volume and then rolling it down for clean. I didn't used to be this way, but after gigging with my Class 5 for 7 months, I wouldn't have it any other way ;)

hehehehe yeah whatever - the R30 is just a much better sounding amp than the R20 no matter what you do with em.
It's much better than the Tweaker too.
It's Renegade quality imo :)

I've owned both the Rebel 20 and the Rebel 30. I bought the Rebel 20 and had it for a week and realized I needed 2 channels, so I returned it for the Rebel 30. I don't think either sounded "better" than the other. The Rebel 30 is much smoother on the dirt channel, but the Rebel 20 has got an AWESOME crunch sound with bite that I couldn't really get from the Rebel 30.

Different strokes for different folks, but I don't think more options automatically = better amp.

It's all subjective. I tried both, the 20 and 30 and liked the 20 better so I took it home. is what's better for you. Better Money wasn't an issue. I don't think the Rebel 30 was ever meant to be a Rebel 20 with two channels. Just try them out and see what floats yer boat.

Hopefully this will be my experience. I love single channel amps.

I had the Rebel 30 for a while but couldn't get with it. I think the Rebels were designed to "prove themselves" a bit- They kick in a lot of volume up front. The Rebel 30 didn't sound so goos at bedroom levels, and I thought it didn't have a smooth volume taper.

Well, my Rebel 20 just arrived, so I'll A/B it tonight with the Tweaker that was sent as a replacement. My original goal was to sell my Fender Blues Deluxe and replace it with the Tweaker and Rebel 20, but I don't think I can part with my Deluxe.

So, I'm going to compare the 2 and return the one that doesn't speak to me. I played the Rebel 20 for a few minutes before returning to work and it sounded awesome. It has the throaty mids of my Marshall Class 5, and the some of the sparkle of a Fender amp. Really like it!

I can already tell that it doesn't have that "huge sound" factor through my Greenback loaded Vox 1x12 cab. But, I've ordered the Rebel cab so I should see it arrive in a week or so.

Well, I A/B'd the Rebel 20 vs Tweaker last night....neither one lost.

They are both awesome sounding amps and I really wish I could keep both. The Tweaker has much more crisp cleans, more variety, and so many possibilities it makes my head spin. The Rebel 20 has a distinct clean that sounded AWESOME with my pedals. The Rebel 20 really has the personality of my Class 5 with the chime of my Deluxe...a really nice combination.

So, in the end I'll be sending the Tweaker back. I wanted a small amp head for gigging and practicing at the church, and the Rebel just sounds better with my pedal setup...well, I shouldn't say better, just thicker and more full.
