Hello,
I picked up the Egnater Rebel 30 combo a couple of weeks ago and love how it sounds. I’m used to (and maybe prefer) a clean Fender sound with reverb (previous amp was US Hot Rod Deville 212) but I’m digging the clean on the Rebel 30. The 2nd channel is great and a definite improvement over the HRD 212. I liked the reverb on the HRD 212 more but the digital reverb is tolerable on the Rebel 30. I’m clueless to the nuances of tube amps so I’m slowly learning and appreciating the other features like the adjustable wattage (1 – 30), tube blending, and silent recording.

The one thing that bugs me is the noise on channel 1. There is a ridiculously loud hum when I plug in directly to an outlet. The hum is still there when I use a general brand 3 to 2 prong grounding adapter. The hum decreases significantly when I plug the amp into a surge protector, then an EBTech Hum X Voltage Hum Filter (http://www.ebtechaudio.com/humxdes.html) and then the outlet. The hum still gets louder when I pass 12’ o clock on the channel 1 volume. Is there something wrong with the amp?

I understand there is always going to be some noise but the noise channel 1 generates is bothersome. I don't remember my Fender HRD 212 generating this much noise especially the clean channel. I generally play at a low volume by myself at home but I’m concerned how it would perform in a full band setting. Do I need to get a power conditioner (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panamax+-+8 ... &cp=1&lp=3)?

I love the sound, size and weight of this amp, but I am worried about some of the bad experiences other users have had that I’ve read about on several message boards. The build of this amp feels solid. I don’t think the noise is coming from the effects loop or the footswitch because the noise is still there when nothing is plug in. Should I return it and get something else? Any help or advice would be deeply appreciated

Tubes are always the first place to look for any kind of noise issue, particulalrly preamp tubes.

I call Egnater and was told maybe to swap out the preamp tube. Is there a particular brand that could decrease the noise in channel 1?

How long have you had the amp? We do offer a tube warranty if the amp is fairly new.

I learned a very important lesson this weekend. Never underestimate the importance of good cables! I plugged my Rebel 30 112 in various outlets around my home and my office using a surge protecter and a ebtech HumX adapter and still got that ridiculously annoying loud hum . I stop by the store where I bought the amp and plug in there using the same setup I use at home. I still got the hum on the 1st channel. They suggested I use a different cable. I plug in using a different cable and the hum dropped significantly. It turns out the old cheap cables I've been using are crap. I bought a couple of Planet Wave cables and went home a happy camper.

Nice.... It definitely can make a difference. I live I'd say less than a mile from a FM radio tower which is pretty bad but too make it worse it's country music  hahaha.... Anyway, sometimes if my cables lay a certain way or I have cheap cables in my effects loop, it is like my cables just act like an antenna picking up the radio station and it plays out my amp.... Not so bad with the Egnater but with my Marshall Valvestate it's terrible. I was running around the house with that thing trying to find the perfect spot where I didn't get a lot of interference....

Cables make a huge difference, and half the time people don't think of them! I have gotten away from Monster and moved toward Mogami or Neutrix. Always start with the simplest explanation for why a problem is happening. Go to the complicated if the simple doesn't fix it.

Just another trick we've learned, is make sure you don't have any lights on a dimmer switch that are dimmed and causing noise in the amp. Even if they are in another room, we've seen things like that causing noise in the amp.
