Hi!
I just got a brand spanking new Rebel 30 and I'm loving it. It does however have a noise issue. There is some static high-frequency sound coming from the clean channel without even connecting a guitar cable. With the volume all the way down you can't hear it, but the minute you move the volume knob on the clean channel it's there. On channel two there is a similar sound, but it's not dependent on the volume knob at all, and you only starty to hear it with the gain past 12 o'clock. It rises exponentially once you get into 4 o'clock territory, but I didn't expect the gain to be noiseless anyway. The clean channel is the crux of the issue.

It's less prominent on the 6v6 setting, but pretty loud when evenly blended or full on EL84.

This sound is definitely different from the regular hum of the amp, and dependent on volume.

That sounds like it could be a tube problem. You could try changing out each of the preamp tubes, one at a time, to see if that changes the sound.

Yep, that's what I thought. Where do I get replacement tubes, and which ones should I get?

Small bump

I contacted Egnater, but I didn't seem to get a reply. I'll try again but in the mean time I'd appreciate any suggestions. I'd obviously prefer them to handle this, but with me living in Norway things get complicated.

Your local GC will have tubes. What to get? That is the endless discussion around here. A Groove Tubes will certainly get you going.

Nate from Egnater finally got back to me. He suggested that it might be the preamp tubes. I've got a ruby 12AX7AC5 HG from a VoxAC4TV. Can I try replacing the different 12AX7s with this one by one?

I don't know a lot about tube compatibility

Yep, a 12AX7 is a 12AX7. May sound slightly different, but it will no doubt get the job done.
