Good morning/afternoon/evening people of Rigtalk!

I just purchased a used Renegade 212 from Music123.com which was professed to have no issues with regard to it's functionality and a few cosmetic flaws, so it could be a factory second, return, or a previously owned unit. When it arrived I plugged it in, turned it on, and began testing each of the amps features and discovered this:

The Issue: Channel one is extremely quiet, leading me to suspect a it's tube that has reached the end of its term of service. I've adjusted the channel and master volumes a little (not much) and it doesn't seem to have any effect. Channel two is loud and proud and remains that's way irrespective of my fiddling with the tube mix, leading me to suspect that the power tubes are functioning properly. Is it possible to have a preamp tube issue that effects one channel and not the other? I may be way off bass with this... or off treble...

I'm deathly afraid it's a power transformer issue as I know these units are notorious for their garbage power transformers which is a $200 fix.

Anyways, there is a money-back guarantee for the unit if its a mechanical problem owing to the fact that it wasn't disclosed in the description and if it's a wonky power transformer I'll catapult this thing back to Kansas City and forget the name Egnater forevermore. If the issue is a used-up tube however, I'd like to keep the amp and affix a fresh compliment of tubes. If anyone is familiar with this issue or has any recommendations for further diagnostics I eagerly await you're input as I have 30 days to return the unit.

Thanks.

PS. As this is my first post I feel obligated to admit that I have neither been knighted nor earned a doctorate. "Andrew" was taken.

Chances are you are correct with the problem being a preamp tube failure. I suspect if the PT was the issue there would be failure of many functions including blown fuses.

Thanks a bunch man, I feel better already. I actual looked up the tube layout diagram like an intelligent/responsible owner would have done in the first place last night and did this:

Pulled some ECC83s out of my blues reissue and replaced the stock Egnater-Rubys in the V1A/B and V2A/B preamp slots since those are the first stops for channel one and BAM, it perked right up. So it looks like I'm gonna be out $200 after hours of reading all the renegade tube compliment recommendations. Not sure if I'll ever do business with Music123.com again but at least I learned something: Long live MusiciansFriend!

Anyways, thanks a bunch Lou and if anybody else has something to add please believe I'll read it with great appreciation.
