I have had the renegade for over a year and loved it. The clean channel always sounded weak and fizzy to me though. I changed the tubes but nothing seemed to help. I decided to play around with the clean channel recently and accidentally pushed on the BRIGHT/NORMAL switch and the amp crackled and the sound increased greatly.

Is this something I could fix myself?
I love this amp and don't want to kill it .... but lack the funds to send it off for repair.

It depends on how handy you are with fixing things like that. If you shoot an e-mail to nate@egnateramps.com, he will be able to help you trouble shoot a little bit and see if we can figure it out a little better.

Thanks for the reply Ian. I will send Nate an email.
[UPDATE]
I think I was wrong about it being the switch. I dismantled the head and took out the clean/distortion circuit. All solder points looked ok and nothing was lose. I refastened the circuit board and left all pots lose except for the tube mix pots. Now when I touch the Gain pot the sound completely cuts out. I assume that it was not the switch at all but instead the pot.
Now it does this

Have you already try a contact cleaner spray ? (Btw,i have the same kind of problem with my Luxman hi-fi amp... :aww: )

Have you figured out the problem with this issue....I have a similar problem, my clean is very weak and I have replaces/swapped tubes with known good ones to no avail....I would appreciate if you posted a fix if you found one....thanks..............vin

vin001,
I am still waiting on a response to an email I sent to nate@egnateramps.com on Dec.14th.

After my own bit of researching I believe in my case the gain pot was bad when it was installed. By tightening the nut on the pot it forced the connections inside to work but at a degraded level. By pushing up on the Bright/Normal switch I was actually moving the motherboard enough to cause the pot to move slightly and that caused the sound to go in and out making me think it was the switch. Once I relieved pressure on the gain pot, by removing the nut, nothing was holding the connections inside the pot together anymore.

Does anyone know the rating on the gain pot? I could at least swap out this pot just to be sure that my thinking is correct.

There seems to be some quality control / cheap parts issues with these amps. I am very frustrated right now.

Thanks for the input....I am going to check my gain pot this weekend if I have time. Please keep me posted if you get it fixed or any other good info.....thanks.....vin
